Summer seems to grow shorter every year and before we know it, it's time to buy the new backpacks, sharpen the pencils and send the kids back to another year of school! This year was especially exciting for Tash as she got to FINALLY
(her words) leave Legacy Elementary and try swimming in the big American Fork Junior High pond! I attended orientation day with her and felt mostly DISORIENTED as we wandered the halls that felt suspiciously similar to a hamster cage maze. I wrote major amounts of directional arrows and keywords on the poor map they passed out to all the students in an effort to help my girl feel the least amount of frustration as possible on the first day of school...not sure if that was effective or not, but it helped calm my mother bear instincts. I couldn't get over how old the students looked and the fact that most of them were on their cell phones (how did I ever get through my educational experience without one??) I am 100% sure I am not ready to send her into this world...all I could think of was my little kindergartner with long, flowing piggy-tails wrapped in red ribbons. I asked if I could come take a picture of her in front of the school on the first day to which she replied adamantly, "Mother, NO!" Guess that pretty much sums up the new changes in store for us...but she was ready and so thrilled to get started!
On the flip side, Connor and Dane weren't super excited to go back to school. They never are. The best part of their first day? Lunch and recess. Yep, that about sums it up, too. As for me? I'm not gonna lie...I was pretty darn giddy to have a little peace and quiet for a couple of hours...yippee for me!
