- Look out Point - Ulu Langat, Why to cross it off your list.

We drove out past some of the more dreary, neglected parts of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, into an area in Ulu Langat, Selangor, known to have a little known secret of Selangor called the Look out Point. It was a good escape we were told from the sweltering heat and humidity of KL with some good restaurants and an excellent view of the city.
We missed the sunset, but got there just as the mosquitoes began to be annoying. The long, slow drive through the unremarkable areas leading to the Look out Point had us looking forward to some good thirst quenching drinks followed we hoped by a satisfying meal in the cool of the evening.
We had hardly parked when 2 officious parking attendants rudely told us to park elsewhere as this was reserved for VIPs. We moved the car. Most of the restaurants were closed but we saw some stairs leading up to a restaurant at the 'peak'. We walked up and were relieved to see an open decked area with seating. We were lead to a table and provided the menu. At first glance the pictures of the over priced drinks looked good. Nothing even mildly alcoholic was to be had so we ordered 'juices'.The pictures on the menu lied, they were watered down and barely quenched.
We got down to the business of ordering an assortment of the Malay dishes to go with rice. The portions were pathetic and the freshness of the seafood especially suspect. We would have done far better at a mamak place for a fraction of the price. With a disappointing meal like that, the conversation did not flow, the mosquito bites felt worse and the view did little to enchant us or our Dutch guest.
The "icing" on the cake had to be the remark made by the Arab looking manager to whom we mentioned the the poor quality of the food & service. His response, " What do you expect? You got the view!" Charming!!!
So people, be warned. The Lookout Point in Selangor is a waste of time. Perhaps Tourism Selangor will take note.
