Trent's Very Own Hell on Earth!

Well, many of you have bugged us that we don't give you enough posts on everything we are up to...and that there aren't enough pics of us. Well, you will be slightly disappointed with this post as there are no pics of us...however this was our weekend. It starts out that we recieved a gift card to IKEA for our wedding. Well, Trent has been loathing the day that I make him go there with me, but this saturday it finally happened(probably only because he couldn't go snowmobiling). Anyway we were there about two hours. First, you have to browse through the showroom, then you continue on through the marketplace. Each of which are probably about 2 football fields in size(Trent says they are seven and they all gave him a headache!) Then you get to the self-serve section, which is where you are supposed to be able to easily identify one of the many aisles and bins that contain the items that you want. This is not so...nothing is where it says. But, you smile and ask a worker because you can smell cinnamon rolls just around the corner. However, you make it around the corner and you see ...
ImageLines and more lines...and you have to see to the front of the line to determine which form of payment they will allow.

But, we ended up with a super cute and very efficient sofa table, that Trent enjoyed putting together with his new set of tools! Ikea has great ideas if you live in small spaces and need something cute, but with storage. We both really liked some of the stuff they had but Trent says next time I have to take my mom!

The Fog!

Well, as an annual Christmas Eve tradition, the Thacker crew goes snowmobiling to a cabin owned by some of our family friends. We go with the Sorensen's, Bagley's, and the Gillis's. This year we got up early and drove up to Monte Cristo. (Near Morgan) Anyway, we snowmobile in and have lunch and play around. There are great hills for sledding. This year...it was not so. The foggy conditions left us white-knuckling our way in and out of the cabin(we had to ride 10 miles in to get there.)

ImageThis is about the view I had as I traveled up the road. A few times some of us couldn't see and we accidentally went off trail. OOPS!

ImageThis is the whole crew, we all made it rather successfully to the cabin. There were only a few minor mis-haps.

Merry Freakin Christmas!

Well, Trent and I had a great Christmas Ever and Christmas morning. We first went snowmobiling on Christmas Eve, and made it back in time to go to The Thacker Christmas party. After that party we went to my mom and dad's to have christmas dinner and open all our presents. Then Trent and I wanted to be able to sleep in since we'd have such a busy day on Christmas, so we opened all of our presents on Christmas Eve too! That was fun. On Christmas Day we had to visit Joni and Larry, then we made the rounds with all of my family. We had to visit both grandma's. So it was a busy day.

Here's the trouble...we went to bed last night and woke up to a stolen snowmobile and trailer. Now, this snowm0bile Trent and I just purchased last Friday and the trailer was bought by him and Tyler last winter. So, apparently in the middle of the night someone decided to come hook themselves up to it and steal it! I just don't understand how someone could do that on Christmas night. How can people be so completely evil!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I like wrapping paper...it is just cuter and more fun. But if I have an odd shaped gift to wrap...I'll stick it in a bag.
2. Real tree or artificial? I like the smell of real...but artificial is just much easier because you don't have to water it or vacuum up under it when the pine needles fall. Also...artificial trees have a new great thing...they come pre-lit! Hooray!
3. When do you put your tree up? Between Thanksgiving and Dec. 1st
4. When do you take it down? December 26th
5. Hot Chocolate or apple cider? Both, but we have this awesome Cocomotion thing that makes the best hot chocolate ever.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? I have no idea. I don't remember one favorite.
7. Do you have a Nativity scene? I wish I did!
8. Hardest person to buy for? My mother...what do you buy for a woman that has everything??
9. Easiest person to buy for? Trent, all I have to do is buy something BYU or snowmobile related and he is happy. Although, this year he found his love for powertools.
10. Worst Christmas gift ever received? I don't know.
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Definitely mail...it is fun to get the cute pictures of everyone's kids. I even mailed out cards this year :)
12. Favorite Christmas movie? ELF
13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Probably, but I don't remember.
14. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My mom's treats...every year she bakes millions of different goodies. Mmmm...

16. Favorite Christmas song? Oh come all ye faithful
17. Travel or stay home? Either one. It is probably easier to stay home.
18. Can you name all the Santa's reindeer? I don't know anyone who can't.
19. Angel or Star? We have a star this year. I like both, but I think it is hard to find a really pretty angel.
20. Favorite Christmas memory? Every year on Christmas Eve we get to open one gift. Also, my family always goes to a movie and then we cook up a huge feast. We have lobster, crab, and steak with all of the fixins. That has always been fun. It is also fun to go on the traditional christmas eve snowmobiling trip to the cabin with the Thackers.

I tag Brynn, Skye, Jamey, and and I don't know anyone else who blogs, that wasn't already tagged!

Cute new blog!

well i was bored tonight while trent was out doing his christmas shopping, so I changed my blog a bit. I hope it is cute. I am kind of worried that it has too much going on! Anyway...the website with all these cute blog pages is http://cutestblogontheblock.blogspot.com

Temple Square!

Well, since the last blog...for those of you faithful readers, lots has happened. First of all, Trent and I went to the Forgotten Carols, and Trent actually liked it. We also saw the movie Enchanted. It was cute...but a little too Disney. We also went snowmobiling, and I beat Trent in a race! :) We also went to Temple Square last night with a family that the Thackers have apparently known forever, The Horrocks'. I really love to see the lights at temple square, it is so fun. And...this year they had my favorite tree...and it was done in RED!

Let it Snow!

Image
Well, this weekend we got a huge snowstorm. Luckily Trent put up some Christmas lights for me just in the nick of time about and hour before it snowed! You can see we got quite a bit...it is all piled up on our porch!

Our First Christmas!

Image
We had our Christmas tree up 2 days before Thanksgiving! I love Christmas, and Trent is like a little kid, so we both wanted to get the tree up. My mom thinks we'll get sick of it...we'll see. Anyway, last year Trent and I were engaged at Christmas time, so the day after my mom dragged me out to buy all of my decorations at half off! I must admit I'm glad she took me. We didn't have to buy much this year!

Ward Christmas Party!

Image
Last Saturday we had our ward Christmas Party. I wrote up a tribute to Tyler and we displayed the BYU tree. Cassie came along and we gave it to her to take home. She absolutely loved it. Everyone was impressed! Grandma and Grandpa Thacker came too! It was nice that everyone was so impressed with the tree. It really was a great tribute to Tyler!

This is our bedroom! Yep, that is our Grandma Dansie painting. It matches perfectly!

This is pictures of our little apartment. It works for the two of us. Before we moved in we had the pleasure of painting...and I must admit although it was small, I learned to hate painting! Never Again!

Image
I love the Shabby Chic look, so you can't tell but our nightstand and headboard are white antiqued. All done by mwa! (Trent helped too!)

Mockboard Patient!

Well, this afternoon I saw a young woman who turned out to be a mockboard patient for February! What a load of stress off my back. She will be 4 quads of a class 2, and I didn't start her so that I get the quads next semester. So basically the last 2 weeks all that I did was OD's...but I found a class 4 and a class 2. Anyway, she is very dependent and willing to help me out on test day, so I hope that works out great.

How Sweet It Is!

Well, this is all going to sound pretty nerdy, but I had such a great patient this morning. To start with I'll give you a little background. He came in at the first of the semester and he had perio. He was a 30 year old patient and had never had a cleaning, he had grown up in mexico and had no idea what a toothbrush and floss was. I got him all cleaned up in a couple of appointments, and he came diligently, he listened to my every word...he started flossing and brushing, then I added listerine to his regimen. Today I had him in for a tissue eval., and he looked great! His gums were so healthy and he had diligently brushed and flossed like I had said. It made him and me so happy that his periodontal disease was stopped! He was thrilled...and I was proud of him and myself! I did a great job....and this type of guy makes this job so great!

Crazy Day!

Well, this morning was kind of crazy. I had a no show pt. but I picked one up from the dental clinic across the hall. This guy was only in his 30's and had the grossest mouth I have ever seen. He had 3 absesses and a huge fenestration below tooth 23. (A fenestration is a place that is so infected the gum tissue dissolves and exposes the bone and tooth). It was so cool, but oh so nasty. Stinky is also a good word. This guy had some severe/chronic infection. I scheduled him for next semester. Hopefully he will come in, he was very worried about the cost. I may end up paying for him, since he was 4 quads class 4...and we all know those are rare! Then, this afternoon I had a patient come in, but someone else needed the requirements so I gave him away. I am starting to wonder if the instructors think I am lazy because I have given so many patients away! But, I have all of my requirements done! Hooray....now, it is time for a much needed looong Christmas break!!

BYU Tree!

ImageThis is the final project...Shannon Sorensen(Trent's boss) next to the tree. He is a huge UTE!

Image

ImageAlright, so I am not a BYU fan. We all know that. However, for our ward Christmas party the Young Women wanted to dedicate a Christmas tree to Tyler, and donate it to Cassie. So, I was in charge of this lovely tree. I had the YW make the ornaments and then they decorated the tree. It will be displayed at our ward Christmas party on Dec. 1. It was so much fun to make the tree. I had a lot of help from Joni and Trent. Also, Aunt Kimmie was great in donating the homemade tree skirt that is so dang cute! The tree has everything blue and white...lights, Y's, ribbon, etc. I was in charge of the theme of the tree and besides Cassie and snowmobiling sports and BYU was Ty's next love. The tree also has framed(blue and white frames) pictures of Ty at every age and playing every sport. It was so fun to make the tree. We all miss Ty so much and especially with the season. We think of him everyday!

Thanskgiving!

Image
Image
Well, since Trent and I now have two sides of the family to visit. We went to Grandma Thacker's house for turkey and then to my Aunt Ginny's house for spaghetti. My family is italian, so we have a tradition of having homemade spaghetti every holiday! The picks are of the whole family sitting for dinner at Grandma Thacker's. Then my brother and my mom at my aunt's.

Catch 22 Day!

Well, today, the day before Thanksgiving, I did not want to get up and go to the VA. So I got there and did not see any patients because we had some no shows, and there were people that needed stuff more than I did. I hope that next week is a much more successful day. However, it was kind of a catch 22 kind of day because although I didn't see patients, I was able to give anesthetic for the doctor's and I also recorded kami giving tips on anesthesia as part of my bachelor credit. So, I guess all in all I had a pretty good day. Next week...I will see patients!

Go UTES!

For all you BYU fans...the UTES are going to kick butt in the game next Saturday! Thought you all should know.

Boring Day!

Well, this morning I had a class 5 patient....and I swear she could have just cleaned her own teeth. She was from china, and she was telling me everything that I should do. Fortunately she had like no buildup on her teeth. However she drank lots of green tea so she had serious stain everywhere. I was grateful for the opportunity to remove the stain(not that I liked it) but, I was glad that I could learn how. I couldn't find a patient for this afternoon...but chanci scheduled some so I did and OD. All done!

Good weekend

Well for those of you not interested in what I am doing for school! It was a great weekend....although I had to go the BYU game. It was a necessary adventure because I had to buy a few things at the BYU bookstore for the Christmas tree I am doing for our ward. We are making a tree in honor of Tyler Thacker...our brother. It is going to be a BYU tree. So I bought lots of fun stuff to put on the tree. Then, Trent's wonderfuly Aunt Kim made a tree skirt for the tree. It is so cute. I can't wait to see it. It will look great under the tree. It's too bad it didn't have Utes on the other side though :) j/k. The game was pretty good, although I don't think the 1.5 mile walk was really worth it! I can't believe how horrible that was...we missed a whole quarter just because we had to walk so far!

Wheelchairs and a Class 2

Today was a pretty good day. We didn't have to see any patients this morning. We learned wheelchair transfers, desensitization, and emergency prep. It was a pretty nice and relaxing morning. It is always hard for me when we don't have to see patients in the morning because by afternoon I am dead and don't want to see a patient anyway. However, today I had a really nice latin lady come in, she was pregnant, so it was hard to classify her, but I ended up getting a 2 out of her...which worked out great because that is what I needed. All in all it was a pretty good day, especially after the morning I had....I woke up this morning at 6:30, which is normally the time I leave! I was panicked, luckily I have a great husband that warmed my car, cooked my breakfast, and got me out the door. Tonight I am being nice and going with him to a BYU game...I wanted to wear red...but settled for a good neutral brown. (I don't want to get beat up...we're sitting in the season ticket holders' section.)

VA 11/7/07

Well, another day has gone by at the VA. I had a pretty good experience this morning. my patient had some difficult calculus spurs, and very tight tissues. These are the hardest patients I think. I thoguht that I was doing so crappy too, I wasn't feeling the calculus come out. But, when Kami came in she said that it was like amazing, and I had done an excellent job. It was a really great confidence boost for me. I feel like maybe I have a chance at being a really great hygienist someday. So, I saw an 8, 10, and 1:30 patient today...ugh! I feel like a grunt...I just keep scaling. I am also very proud of myself today because I didn't use the ultrasonic on any of my patients! Wahoo! I am practicing to be a great hand-scaler. Hopefully one day I will succeed.

Mockboards!

Hooray! It's over! And I passed. I am apalled. I didn't think that my patient would even qualify, and then I passed. I got docked for my xrays, which I can control for the next time. I also got docked on calculus, so I just need practice, practice, practice. I barely passed, I got 75.5! But that is a pass baby! I also did bad on some recession on one tooth. Recession is so hard! I couldn't find the CEJ! Oh, well. I am just glad that I know what I need to improve for next time! I am also glad that my patient showed up. He called me this morning at 6:30 and said that his car had broken down, I was panicked! But when I got to school he was here reading his newspaper! It is ALL OVER!

10/25

Well, today turned out to be a good day in clinic. I started out with the final quad of a class 2/3 patient, then I saw a 10 year old who was great. My afternoon patient had cancelled, but I got lucky and chanci had done an OD on a class 2 patient that mornng, so she gave me that patient to clean. The only problem I ran into was that this patient had the most tenacious calculus ever. I couldn't get the stuff off!! It was fun though because I had my peer pal there watching, so it was a good patient experience. I also started my first day at the VA this week. It went pretty well. It is really nice to go there. I hope I can get some really good experience, although I am nervous that I will be too slow to see 2 patients every morning, so wish me luck on that !

Another 1B

I am so glad that I had another 1B today! NOT! I want to do something fun. I did have a difficult 1b, she was a talker, it took me one hour to clean her teeth. she would literally talk with my instruments in her mouth, and I didn't want to be rude and not talk back, so i had to respond. Ahh...it drove me crazy. I hope that I can start seeing good patients soon. I still need my classifications. So hopefully I can get something! We also had a lab today, where we learned accessory fulcrums, blood glucose testing, and perio medicaments.

Good Day

Today I feel like I had a really good day. I was on top of my game. I new the answers to all of shane perry's questions, and he even quizzed me on LA! Wahoo! I also was happy because I got 2 quads done this morning on my beasty class 3, who has the most tenacious calculus ever! I was able to finish up my class 2 this afternoon as well, and he had to be gone quick, so I got him all done in an hour! Yay me! I had a lucky day...maybe there are more like this to come!

Another Day of 1B!!

Well, today I had 2 1B patients, yet again. I want to see some good stuff. I hope that once the VA starts I get to see some there. We also had our instructors switch today, instructor perry is so awesome. He quizzes you on stuff from last year when he is with your patient. I almost feel like I have to study before I come to clinic, just so I make it through his quizzes. I like it though, it makes and helps me become better. Hopefully I'll have better luck next week with the quizzes and with my patients classifications!

9/27

Today was an alright day. I started off with a 1b, and then, got another one in the afternoon. Kind of felt like a waste, just because I need those higher classifications, but oh well. I was also frustrated about missing a few spots on my afternoon patient. I can't believe I am a second year, and I am missing spots on a 1b. It made me feel dumb. I did get 2 PE's done today, so I guess I wasn't a total failure!

Clinic 9/20

Today was a crazy day. I had my class 3 patient back( he came in the first week of school) and he had the most tenacious calculus I have ever seen. My hand started hurting half way through the appointment, and I had even used the ultrasonic already! Anyway, I only got one quadrant done, and I took and hour and a half. Ugh! Anyway, that was rough. Then in the afternoon I had a class 2 patient, but I couldn't get xrays on him because he had some taken about 2 months ago. So, I just did one quad, and had to reschedule him. He has to go to his dentist and request copies. The good news is I got 2 pe's done. so I guess I had a little bit of success today. Next week I don't think I'll have much for classifications, I've got 1B's I think. We'll see how it goes, maybe I'll be lucky!

Another day in clinic!

Today was a pretty good day. I had a class 5 and a 1a. So it was pretty easy. I did my exam on my class 5, so that was good. However, when I started the day I had the goal of passing of some PE's, and I didn't get any done!! Ahh! I just didn't find the time to get an instructor to watch me. I wish we had one person in the clinic that would be here solely to do PE's. That would be so awesome, because today I was ready to do PE's, but my instructor would be busy with a scale check or something, and since I didn't want my patient to wait, I just didn't bother. Oh, well. I know that I can do them. I am excited for next week, I'm going to start on my class 3 patient. We'll see how that goes, I hope that with this experience I can get better with my ultrasonic skills.

Board Patient!!!

Today was a great day! I started out really lucky with a patient that qualified for boards! Hooray! I am so glad that stress is gone. I didn't clean and of his quads today, he took a really long time with OHI. I asked him if he'd be willing to be a boards patient, and he is very willing to help, his work is also accomodating! Whew! My afternoon patient was my Aunt Julie, she was a 1b, but she takes a lot of work because she can't open very wide. I finished her with plenty of time though, so it worked great. I am panicking a little though, because I still need a patient for next week! Ahh!

We're BAack!!

Well, the school year started again! Summer was so great! I got married, the wedding was great. We had many vacations and I loved every minute. I am ready to get down and dirty and learn how to be a good hygienist. It was a good first day of clinic. We sharpened, put our set ups together, and learned a few things a lot better than last year. I am a little nervous for the first patient again, my goal is to at least get to scaling the first day with both of my patients. We were advised to only do OD's, but they are family, so I'll try to scale!

The end!

Well, it was the last day of clinic today. Luckily my class 3 showed up and things went really well. I was able to get all finished and still had extra time to clean out my unit for the end of the year. I can't believe we're done with one whole year of the program. It's crazy, and I'm getting a little worried about going into second year. I'm scared that I don't know enough. I hope that I don't forget everything over the summer. I also hope to have a great summer. I have my wedding planned for June, and we have a few vacations scheduled! I can't wait!

Almost done!

Well, today I finished up getting my extra quads to qualify for an A. I also finished up with my PA's. I can't believe I made it! Now the only thing that I need to do is pray that my class 3 will show up on Wednesday and I'm all set. I just need those last 2 quads of class 3 and I am done. Then of course, there are always finals! I can't believe it's the end of the 1st year. I am so excited. I still feel like I have so much to learn!

My last 1A

Today I had my last 1A for the semester. I was able to get my last pano taken as well. I also passed off the diagnodent PE. Which means I only have 3 PE's left. I have all of my qualifications, except I need some more PA's. I hope that I have luck with that within the next week. We'll se how it goes. Anyway, it was a good day, and I'm glad because I have to be here all night for the orientation.

Class 3

Well, today I had my first class 3 patient. I scaled 2 quads, and I think it was a really good experience. Luckily I had a lot of help from Candace. She gave me a lot of pointers. I did feel like I did a pretty good job for the first time. I hope that next time, when she comes back for me to finish her up I have enough time. I felt really comfortable. I just felt like I wanted someone to watch me to make sure that I was getting the technique right.

Not bad!

Well, today I was here all day long. It was that bad. I really thought it was going to suck. I was the CA in the morning because I had to make up the clinic session. In the afternoon I had a 1B, and I was able to do 2 sealants. It worked out really nicely. I felt good about getting at least the sealants done. I also was glad to have a 1B since wednesday I am going to have to really prepare myself to work on my class 3. I hope I do well. It might be tough! My goal, as usual, is to improve my time!

Getting Closer

Well, I feel like I am getting closer the meeting the requirements of getting a B. I have given up on an A, and am excited to get a B. I know that is sad, but that is what it has come to. I got a pano taken today, and finished up my requirements for 1B and 2 patients. Now all I need is a 1A and a class 3. I guess if I am not lucky, I still won't get a B, because i think it takes luck to find a class 3 patient. Anyway, wish me luck for next time. My goal is to improve on time, for some reason I feel like it takes me forever. I hope that is something that I can improve.

The days just keep coming.

Well, today I was scheduled for a class 2 patient, but had all of my class 2 quads done. So I traded skye, who had a 1A, because I needed a 1A. So it worked out nicely. I got done pretty quick today. My patient was 4 1/2, so there really wasn't too much calculus. I'm glad that I had an easy day today. I don't think I would have made it if I had a hard patient. See you next week.

Another 1B

Well, I got another 1B done today, that I didn't need. It is such a guessing game trying to get patients with the classifications that I need. Even patients that haven't been in forever still sometimes aren't class 2 or 3, its crappy! I hope that I seriously just get the best luck ever for the rest of the semester, because at this point I feel like that is the only thing that is going to save me! Well, wish me luck!

Another Day

Well, it was the first day back from spring break. Today went really well. I treated my sister-in-law Cassie. She was pretty easy, another 1b. I really hope luck is on my side for the rest of the semester because I really have a lot of xrays left to take. I need panos, full mouths, and sealants still. I hope everyone will share. Thanks everyone!

Frustration!

Well today I had another 1b patient, and not only is it frustrating that it was a 1b, it is frustrating that before this week I have not had any additional clikcs at my scale checks, and now all of the sudden this week I get like 10! I'm wondering if it is me or if it is the person checking! I'm really frustrated because I htought that I was doing good. I'm still stressed about not getting my class 2 and 3's . Hopefully class mates will help me out with this.

Another Day!

Well, today was a pretty good day, although I missed a lot of calculus on my patient and I did an exam for it! Argh! Anyway, I just had a 1b patient, he was really nice, I took xrays and got done with the scaling as well. It was good. I am starting to get really nervous about not having my class 2's or 3's yet, and I am a little behind as far as xrays go. I hope to catch up on that soon. I don't know what I'm going to do though. I need pano's(2) and (2) sets of full mouths. Crappy! I look forward to spring break, it will be nice to get away. Although I feel as if it is just going to put me even more behind.

What Progress

Well, today I feel like a made a lot of progress as far as meeting my requirements. I also learned some new ways to scale interproximally from candace, and she was very helpful! I hope that I can one day be good enough! Anyway, I was able to get 2 quads class 2 today, and one quad class 1b done. I also passed off 3 pe's, and did a sealant, so I feel a lot better than I did a few weeks ago with meeting my requirements. I still ldon't know if I'll get enough quads to get an A, but I think I have a good shot at the B requirements!

Good Day!

Well today I had a really nice patient. He was hispanic, which made it a little hard to talk to him, but he spoke a lot of english. He had severe perio, and was a class 4 in one quad, so I have to give that quad to my peer pal! She'll like that! Anyway, the other quads were class 2, and I got him all done. I was able to use my ultrasonic, and it is my new favorite instruement ever! It helps so much with time, and I don't have to do nearly as much hand scaling! I love it! I hope that I find more patients that are class 2 and 3, I need the qualifications!

Yay!

Today was the first day that I actually got completely finished with a patient in one visit. I am so glad, I feel so stressed and behind on quads right now. I hope that I will get faster, I need to talk to people and find out their tricks with scaling quickly. It was my future father-in-law, so I'm glad that it was a good patient. I was able to do an exam! Hooray! I also got to pass off a PE. Next week I hope to get more quads done so that I don't feel so behind.

Ultrasonics!

I love the ultrasonic! I can't wait to actually use it on a patient that needs it. We learned how to use them today, and I think that they will work great! I hope that I have someone I can use it on in the next few weeks!

Stressed!

Well, I'm starting to get stressed. I feel so behind! It seems like although I emphasize to patients how much I need them here on time and with paperwork, they always get here late and I don't get done. I am freaking out because I have only got like 11 quads completed so far this semester, I've rescheduled a few patients, but I'm worried about getting things done in the right amount of time. I know that we need a 1b by march 9th, and I'm already scheduled, and have no idea if one of them is a 1b. I guess I just start praying for things to work out. Maybe I'll get lucky! Meanwhile, if anyone else is stressed this bad, let me know!

Yay!

Today was the first day that I didn't feel like I wasted my entire clinic time. I actually got to scale in one visit on an adult today, and I was so glad. I stil have to have my patient come back, but luckily trent's aunt in very willing. she is a bit of a challenge because she cannot open her mouth very wide. i lookl forward to cleaning her again. i am getting a little worried because we need a 1b exam soon, and i don't have anyone scheduled for it! i hope i have one come up soon!

1A Exam!

well today was my first 1a patient, and I just went ahead and did an exam on him. he was 9 years old, and very good, I was lucky. Hopefully I'm just as lucky with getting graded on my paperwork! No blue slips would be great! Overall it was a good experience, except I felt like it took forever, I don't know how I'm going to get 2 kids done in one appoitnment ever! I hope that I will get faster!

No show patient!

Well today was no fun! My lovely scheduled patients decided upon arrival that they no longer wanted cleanings, they wanted extractions. Since they were two young girls...I had given one of them to Sheri for a cleaning....so both of us were out a patient! Needless to say we had to walk around campus for about 1 1/2 hours to look for a patient. Every single person we asked said that they were on their way to class and couldn't get their teeth clean...it was like listening to a broken record. It had snowed, so we were out tromping in the snow...it was such a joyous time in our lives! NOT! Anyway, they we came back in and passed off a few PE's, which we could have been doing all along, as well as helping our peers. I really hope that I never have to do that again, and I felt the worst because it was slightly my fault that sheri didn't have a patient! I felt so bad for her. Anyway...that was my fun day!

What a Day! 1/29

Well, today was my first experience with a pt. that was not my family and it was crazy! My patient was a class 2, which I am excited about, but I struggled because she was not good with her oral hygiene. So I had to teach her OHI for about an hour, teaching her what and why we have floss and how to brush her teeth properly. So I didn't get any scaling done, but hopefully she will come back! That is the plan! It was a stressful day because I ran behind due to xray errors! Ugh! I never had errors in practice, but of course in school I have them! Anyway, my next patient is a kid, and my goal is to get done, take xrays, and not feel scatterbrained and stressed!

Finally!

Well, inconveniently my original patient for today canceled, so trent was the backup. He came agian. I din finish him though! Which was great, he is the first patient that I have finished all the way through. I feel good about what I did. I just hope that monday goes good for me. I have a spanish speaking patient, and I hope that she isn't too hard. I also hope that I have enough time for her. Anyway, my goal is to keep practicing and keep getting faster. I hope to be able to finish a 1b in one appointment soon!

I'm a dummy!

Well, today went pretty well, except for the fact that I'm a dork and I finished way too early. So I had afternoon clinic today, and I thought that patient walkout time was 2:45, so I only scaled 2 quads. Well, I found out that patient walkout time was 3:15, and 2:45 is just scale check! I felt so bad because I made my patient have to come back, and I could have just gotten it all done! I'm so sad! I felt like such a dummy for not paying attention! I also wanted to pass off 2 pe's today, and I didn't get that done either! On the other hand, I was much better prepared this time and I felt like things ran smoothly, I just had an extra half hour that I could have utilized much better than I did!! So my goal for next time is to get the pe's passed off that I had planned on today, and also to use my patient as an exam patient. I hope that I have enough time to take xrays too! We'll see how it goes!

CA

well today was a lot less stressful than taking care of patients! I was the CA today, and it wasn't bad. I liked seeing the behind the scenes stuff that I just never think about. It was also nice to actually talk to Mrs. Campbell, which I hadn't done almost at all since I started the program. Sheri was the CA with me, and I am glad that I had her help. I don't know how I'll do it the next time I am CA, when I am all alone in doing it! Anyway, it was nice to not worry about the patients I don't have for one day.

First Patient this Semester!

Well it started off a bit frustrating today. My brother was my patient and he had high blood pressure! So I was late with everything and could only do one quadrant. It went well, I got everything the first try, but I wish I would have had more time to scale, so that I could do more quadrants. I think that my goal for next time is to be a little more organized, and maybe get here just a little bit earlier.

First Day Back!

Well, today was the first day back and I feel like I have a vacation brain! We got to learn graceys today, they were confusing! I am glad that we learned them though. We also learned accessory fulcrums. My goal for wednesday(eek! my first patient) is to utilize the fulcrums I used, but mainly I just want to make it through the appointment. I am glad that it is just my brother. I hope I catch on to all of this confusion soon!
