hello February

A few weeks ago, a fiber friend told me she was going through all of her unfinished projects. That sounded like fun (I lead a very ordinary life) so I pulled out some bins with orphan quilt blocks and unfinished quilt projects. I found one quilt that is so close to being finished but it wasn’t making my heart sing anymore. And there was a bin with some finished blocks and the pieces to make more of those same blocks. But again, not making my heart sing. So those two projects went into a bag for the donation shop.

Then I found these fun little pinwheel blocks. I used a lot of them in a quilt I made a few years ago and remember thinking maybe I would figure out how to use the leftovers. And guess what? Nine of them stitched together will make a fun cushion cover. I have started stitching (circles always make my heart sing) with some lovely pearle cotton. There were a few more which have become small pillows for a little Valentine’s gift.

January was a month to pause and think about how I want to show up in this space. I was chatting with a friend about how much I used to enjoy writing about my quilts and quilting. I spent the month reading some new-to-me quilt blogs and have finally felt the nudge to return. So that is my plan, quilts, embroidery, knitting, with a bit of gardening and outdoorsy stuff when the mood strikes.

Here are a few yarny things that kept my hands busy this last month:

Goodbye 2025

This last week of the year has brought some beautiful blue skies. It is chilly but we don’t have snow (hooray) and I can wear all the wool to keep warm on my walks.

It has been a good year with lots of knitting and reading and sewing. I haven’t made too many plans for next year. I am going to step away from this space for a while. I put my Fitbit in the drawer and pulled out an old analog watch. I have deleted some apps and distractions from my phone. And I have a new planner that I am slowly beginning to use.

Here are a few things I am carrying into the new year.

I am closing comments to support my month of being offline more than I am online. I hope you have the best start possible to 2026.
