40 Days in the Desert

Image

Well, it's been over 5 weeks since my last life drawing session, (thus the blog title 40 days in the desert). Intense work hours, an Animation festival to attend and general life battle fatigue have kept me from consistent life drawing.

However, in August the Toronto School of Art has introduced some new life drawing classes on Saturdays. There will be a session from 1:30-4:30 that will be quick gestures only, with the longest pose being 5 minutes for the month of August. This session is a great workout for an animator.

So, I hope to have some happy weekends of drawing ahead of me.

Here are my latest offerings, thanks for viewing! :)

Today was an incrementally better day at TSA. The young lady modelling knew what she was doing (good variety of poses, aware of her entire figure from all angles), and that makes all the difference. When the model is emotionally present and shows a commitment to her work, it is simply a better drawing experience.

Spring 2012 _A lesson in frustration

Image

The spring has been a lesson in frustration. I started a great new job in February, but it has tested my ability to make it out to life drawing as much as I would like.

So, I present my latest offerings to cyberspace, knowing there are all a little bit rough. Enjoy.

More drawing from the Toronto School of Art with K modelling. It's always nice to to draw a model who is so aware of what she is doing. She always considers the axes of her poses, right down to the tips of her toes. Thank you K. Enjoy.

Well, I wasn't planning to post anything until the end of February, but I had a beautiful day with a diffused light, dry with no wind; so it was a perfect time to photograph some drawing. Not having the best lighting set up in my place, I tend to use natural light to photograph my life drawing. However, that is a very weather dependent situation. My last posting was photographed indoors and the quality of the reproductions is not the best. At some point, I may do a re-shoot of some older work. Enjoy!
