House Update

So our house is coming along..........slowly. We poured the footings in October and it was supposed to be done end of January, but we ran into some issues with the retaining walls so we're a little behind schedule. But here's pictures of what's happened so far. Here's the lot with nothing done.

So right now we're looking at it being completed end of February or beginning of March. We've met a few of our neighbors and are really excited about the people and the area, but at that same time it's hard to start over again. At least my kids are still young and hopefully they'll make friends fast. We miss having friends!!

Soccer

So I tried to sign Cole up for Murray Soccer, but they were all full. So I decided to register Cole for Taylorsville Soccer using Neil's parents address. Brilliant! Except for the fact that when I went to their "Meet the Coach Night,".... there is no coach for Cole's team and NO ONE is willing to volunteer to be the coach. So, I volunteer. OK I know NOTHING about soccer. Nothing. I played softball. Oh well..... here goes.

Turns out it was so much fun! I loved being the coach! I had to put one mom in her place and her son ended up leaving the team (fine by me) but other than that the parents were great with me and we all learned together and even won several games. Cole improved a lot this year and had a blast and gave his all each game. Here's a few pix.

I saw that Murray also had an indoor soccer league for 3 & 4 yr olds so I signed Korver up for that. Luckily, I didn't have to coach and Korver did really well and loved it.

Way to go Cole and Korver!

Injuries

We seem to live with a curse whenever we live with my mom. Last time Cole and I both ended up in the ER shortly after he was born and we seem to be continuing the tradition this time around..... Just with different people.

So Korver was climbing up on a computer tower to get up on my mom's desk when he slipped and his leg caught the corner edge of the computer slicing his leg opened. He ended up with seven stitches in his leg, although I think it should have been more. I don't think the surgeon did a very good job. Oh well. Now he has a gruesome scar to show the rest of his life. Luckily, he's a boy. It was not fun holding this guy down while they numbed his leg. It's so hard to make your child suffer so much pain! He was pretty brave and by the end was extremely happy and was loving his new playdoh and popsicle.

A few weeks later I was cooking dinner and helping Cole with his homework and didn't notice that Shailee had snuck through the railing and climbed up on top of the piano. She got too close to the edge and fell off. I heard the fall and knew right away from her scream it was bad. I picked her up and asked if she was ok. She said no. She held her elbow and my gut told me it was broken. I have never broken a bone so didn't quite know what to look for so I gently felt her elbow and felt a piece slightly move. Ahhhh!! I knew Neil was too far away so I called my mom who rushed home and drove me with Shailee in my arms to the ER at IMC. Should have gone to Primary Childrens. We didn't. The ER took x-rays and wrapped her in a sling. They came back and said that they couldn't see a break but they were pretty sure it was broken because of the amount of swelling. We were told to call Primary Childrens in the morning.

Image

So I call Primary Childrens in the morning and after convincing them that my daughter could not wait a week to come in they finally put me on hold and had a doctor look at the x-rays from IMC. I'm then told to come to the ER at Primary Childrens immediately and that she will need to undergo surgery that day. Once at Primary Childrens they show Neil and I the x-ray which shows a piece of Shailee's bone no where near where it's supposed to be. It was no where near anything, except for close to sticking out of her skin! How the heck did the doctors the night before miss that?!?! They gave Shailee an IV to hydrate her since she could not eat before the surgery and we waited in that room for around 6 hours.
I was starting to feel sick.

Image

We then met with the surgeon who was incredibly awesome and the anesthesiologist who put Shailee out just enough so she wouldn't freak as they rolled her away from us. At that point, I broke down crying. I know I'm so dumb! It was just a broken arm. But watching my baby being rolled away unconscious was HARD! Neil and I went to the cafeteria, but I was feeling sick to my stomach so I didn't eat much. We headed back to the OR waiting room for 1.5 hrs. The surgery was only supposed to take an hour so I was getting a little nervous.  The surgeon finally came in to talk to us and of course ......... that's when my food posining hit. I excused myself and ran........how embarrassing!! Not to mention the surgeon (who luckily was a girl) came back to the restroom to see if I was ok...... Oh just kill me now! Anyway, the surgery went well. It was hard to get everything positioned back to normal but she was able to do it with a couple of pins. Shailee did break her arm on her growth plate so we will be going in for x-rays regularly for the next year and half or so. Hopefully her arm will continue to grow normal.

The surgeon left and the nurses called us to let us know Shailee was waking up and we could see her now, but I knew I couldn't go. I was pretty sure I had food poisining from my lunch I ate at the cafeteria, but there was no way to know for sure and the last thing Shailee needed was to get sick so I knew I had to stay away. I knew I couldn't be there for her when she woke up, nor could I stay the night with her. It was SO HARD to walk away from the hospital without seeing her. Yes, I cried....again.

Shailee did amazing through everything and adjusted really well to her sling and cast. She couldn't have a cast on for a week because of the swelling and then she ended up going through 2 casts as the first cast got too loose. I think she actually really loved the attention..... and gifts. Whenever, someone would ask to see her arm she would proudly hold it up. Just like in this picture. She's also sitting on the blanket she got from Shriner's Hospital. Primary Childrens and Shriners are the best!

Here's what her x-ray looked like with the pins before the pins were trimmed.

And this picture is what the surgeon drew us. It shows the piece of bone that was out of place and where that piece really belonged.

So glad these two are ok and hopefully our visits to the ER are over!!!

Halloween!

Halloween seems to get funner (my husband informed me that funner is indeed now a word. I'm not sure he told me that so he can get away with using it or if it's for real, but I'm using it) every year. The last few years we've gone down to the Big Red Barn in Santaquin and gone for a hay ride and picked out pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. Seeing that we don't live close to that anymore we had fun elsewhere. Our kids are very intrigued by haunted houses but they are too scary for them still so we took them to the haunted woods in Murray Park, which was the perfect amount of scary for them (well maybe a little too scary for Shailee) What's great is that they give you hot chocolate and donuts afterwards. We all loved it! It definitely got us in the mood for Halloween. We also took a ride on the haunted train in Pleasant Grove. That was fun too, except for one of the trains broke down so it took us 1.5 hrs. to get on. It was a really cool train that the boys were really excited about getting to ride. Here's a horrible picture of what the engine looked like.
Image

Here's another horrible picture of us waiting to get on the train. We have our cute nephew Keaton with us too.

We also had two pumpkin carving parties. The first was at Neil's buddy's house and the kids all got to paint pumpkins which I thought was an awesome idea. The second was with my family and we let the boys have at the knives, with some supervision. Here's Korver's pumpkin that dad helped him do.

Here's Cole's bat pumpkin that I helped him do.

For Halloween the boys wanted to be the Kratt Brothers from Wild Kratts so I made them Creature Power Suits with changeable creature power discs. They have had a blast with these suits. Cole is Martin and Korver is Chris. Korver didn't like the idea of me dying his hair dark, he didn't believe me that it would just wash out. Probably because for the past month every time he's looked at his mom he doesn't recognize her because she she just dyed her hair dark. So no thanks Mom.

Shailee was a girlie Superhero for Halloween.
Image

She wouldn't let me put on her headband but she was totally fine with a bucket on her head?! This little one has a sense of humor already. She loved trick-or-treating too. At first she wouldn't put any candy in the bucket. She had to hold it all in her hand. Fortunaltely, she realized that every house we went to people would just give her more, so she was ok with putting it in the bucket if it meant making room for more. She was a trooper too. She wanted to walk most of the way and lasted as long as her brothers did. I was surprised she was content to go home, but by then her bucket was full so I guess she was good. She's a serious trick-or-treater. Probably gets it from her Mom. I went till I was 18. I know....I'm awful.

We were pretty bummed that Neil couldn't be with us this Halloween.  He had to fly out to California for work earlier that afternoon. It was especially hard for Neil as Halloween is seriously his favorite holiday. He has a lot of fun with it. So it was hard not having him there, but he made me a really cute cake before he left and gave me this really cool present.....

Ta Da!!!! A Specialized Saphire Mountain Bike!! Isn't she a beauty?! Oh I'm so so so so SO excited!!!

Image

Here's a closer look. I love the swirl!! She still needs the clip in pedals and a few other things but I can't wait to ride her! So yes babe, it's ok that you had to leave on my birthday. We're good! =)

And of course what's fall without football? Neil and I scored tickets to the BYU vs. Georgia State from my awesome sister. Awesome game. We won of course. Good times! Thanks Carrie!
