About the hackathon
This is our annual hackathon! It is great choice for beginners or for students that are looking for a place to build skills, make conneections and create peices great for any portfolio.
DES will be taking photos at the event which can be used as promotional content for website and socials. By signing up for this event you consent to your photo being taken.
**You must RSVP on eventbrite to be let into the building at the event. Eventbrite link can be found in the top right under "to-dos"
Requirements
What to Build
We have 4 categories in which you can enter your team with to build a project. Your team can only be part of one category.
- Mystery Hat
- Horrible Hacker
- Meetup
- Wildcard
Mystery Hat - Prize: Jobber Job shadow (date already decided - January 22nd or 23rd)
For this category your team will tasked in building something based on Random theme that will be designated to your team. This one will be focused towards students and the ideas will not be overly complicated but a way to show off the skills you have been developing, and a great opportunity to bolster your portfolio. Also, for dates, Jobber has already decided their dates so if you have a midterm those days or you will be out of town I would not sign up for this category.
Horrible Hacker - Prize: Drivewyze Job shadow
Make something that doesn't work! Make something with the worst UI possible. Your team should decide what mad scientist invention they want to make over the next couple days.
Meetup - Prize: Support from DES + Featured on site + Amazon gift card
Dev Edmonton Society officially supports several different meetup groups in the Edmonton surrounding area that touch on a variety of different topics and subjects. For this category you can try selecting one of these meetups (https://devedmonton.com/meetups) to be your main focus,and add some sort of fun tech idea to help them out, create your own meetup and pre plan some of your events or look at our calendar (https://devedmonton.com/events) and make it shine more!
WildCard - Prize: Mystery + STEAM Gift Card
This is for whatever you like to build but the prize wont be announced till the end of the competition and can be great or terrible and could be dependent on who enters. The organizers can do as they like, almost a wild card you could say.
