Inspiration

The MSC Open House is a major part of the freshman experience at Texas A&M, showcasing over 1,300 student organizations. However, the event can be overwhelming, with students eager to visit as many booths as possible but limited by time. Even after the event, staying connected with multiple organizations becomes a challenge, especially with outdated and fragmented systems. This lack of a centralized, year-round platform inspired us to create an app that simplifies and personalizes student involvement

What it does

AggieSphere is a TAMU-first platform that makes it easy for students to discover and connect with campus organizations year-round. It features a personalized feed with real-time updates and a smart search for curated org suggestions. Students can filter content by their interests, while org leaders can manage profiles, sync communications, and post announcements. By streamlining the involvement process, AggieSphere helps students find their campus community with ease and confidence.

How we built it

To kick off the project, our team compiled all product and design ideas into a structured Google Doc using bullet points. This allowed us to clearly and efficiently outline the app’s purpose, key features, and overall user flow. We detailed each page of the app, which helped streamline the process of organizing features during prototype development in Figma. Sample content for each page was also included to guide the design and ensure consistency. Additionally, we selected the color palette ahead of time, which minimized indecision and saved valuable time during the prototyping phase.

Challenges we ran into

As first-time Figma users, getting up to speed with its terminology and features in a short period was a steep learning curve. We also encountered minor bugs along the way, which, while small, ended up consuming a significant portion of our time and added to the overall challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of how quickly we were able to learn and adapt to a brand-new software in such a short period of time. Navigating the challenges of an unfamiliar tool is never easy—it requires patience, persistence, and a lot of trial and error. We’re especially proud of how efficiently we managed our time and applied our problem-solving skills throughout the process, turning obstacles into learning opportunities and building confidence in our ability to adapt and execute

What we learned

After completing the product, we realized that one of the most crucial steps in the entire process was the planning and design phase. It laid the foundation for an efficient workflow by giving us a clear, methodical roadmap to turn our ideas into a fully implemented product. This early structure significantly enhanced both our productivity and the quality of our execution.

What's next for AggieSphere?

Our next step is to launch AggieSphere on the App Store and Google Play in time for Fall 2025’s MSC Open House. This rollout will give TAMU students—especially incoming freshmen—a powerful tool to explore, connect with, and join campus organizations year-round. For student orgs, AggieSphere will simplify communication, post management, and member engagement, creating a more connected and organized campus experience for everyone.
