Inspiration
Mutual appreciation for wolves and a desire to educate about and promote empathy for these keystone species. Having a Wildlife major on the team allowed us to design the game mechanics round knowledge of the actual animals represented.
What it does
Play as a part of a wolf pack with your friends in a multiplayer simulation of pack hunting and communication. Coordinate your sense of smell to find prey in the dark and your superior endurance to chase them down.
How I built it
Apex Predator is built in Unity with C# All models and animations were created in Blender.
Challenges I ran into
Attempting to use Unreal initially failed and there had to be a late engine switch.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The system of modeling a wolf's sense of smell was especially difficult from a design standpoint but worked well in the end.
What's next for Apex Predators
Might make this into something more polished if there's a good response.
