Community – AstonHack11 Canopy is a student-focused system designed to help reduce zoning out during lectures. It combines a smartwatch and a mobile app to detect early signs of attention loss using physiological signals such as heart rate, movement, skin temperature, and EDA. When focus drops, the watch gives a gentle cue (vibration or screen flash) to help the student refocus before missing important content. The app tracks focus sessions, shows progress over time, and uses AI summaries to highlight any missed parts. To keep students motivated, Canopy turns progress into a growing virtual forest, making focus visible, rewarding, and easier to maintain.
Octo-Bounce - Magestic + Untold Studios A browser-based mini-game developed as an interactive prototype. The player controls an octopus and must reach the ocean surface by using a limited number of bubbles and by interacting with in-game elements such as jellyfish.
Inspiration
We wanted to create something fun, simple, and interactive that people could understand and play in a few seconds. The octopus and bubble idea came from wanting a playful character and an easy game mechanic.
And for the community we want to solve a problem for student that we as student actually face.
How we built it
We built the project using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The game with the interface (timer, progress bar, instructions) made using regular HTML and CSS.
What we learned
We learned how to structure a small game in JavaScript, how to combine canvas with UI elements, and how to manage time and features during a hackathon.
Challenges
The main challenges were making the movement feel good, and dealing with browser audio issues.
