Inspiration
We were inspired by the cousins of one of our team members, who recently transitioned to University and were facing financial troubles, particularly with saving their money.
What it does
The user decides on certain items such that when they are purchased, a certain amount of money from their bank account is put into savings. This makes them think twice before spending, and also forces them to save. It's especially great for items that are bought over and over.
How we built it
We used TD's Da Vinci API to grab users' transactions and account balance. We then used Javascript, MongoDB, ExpressJS, and HTML/CSS to create a responsive web application that appeals to a younger audiences.
Challenges we ran into
One of our laptops stopped working for most of the event and had to have its OS reinstalled, setting us back some time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully setting up a database for login/sign-up, and for effectively using TD's Da Vinci API (our first time).
What we learned
Parsing JSON files, working with ExpressJS to route node servers. We also learned more about React even though it was not used in our final product.
