boldBe Free! With our scheduling app!

Inspiration

We were inspired by a group of friends, who enjoyed procrastination to the point where they request us to build an application that would assist them in managing their time flow. At the HackTX hackathon, this was a great opportunity to learn and develop an iOS application.

What it does

Essentially, this program schedules and manages events. The program features two input specifications. The first, a To-Do option, lists off tasks based on duration and by due date. The second, a Event option, provides a concise view point on the event. Scheduling events and to-do tasks has never been easier!

How I built it

Walking into HackTX I knew only how to print "Hello, World!" on Xcode in Swift. After the opening ceremony, I was able to meet my partner Eric Su. We both had a goal of making an application, and soon after we formed a team. Eric had brought his friends who inspired us with their idea and slowly the application came to become a reality. We started off with a two hour planning session to get the overall logic and planning out. Then we split our work load. I focused mostly on the Front-End development, and Eric would focus on Rear-End Development. After 21 hours of hard work and staying up, we successfully developed an application that works on the iPhone 5 and simulations of the iPhone 6.

Challenges I ran into

Learning Swift and syntax. I ran into an immense amount of hurdles to learn.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Learning Swift code for the first time and struggling to develop the application.

What I learned

The format of Xcode, Swift style and coding, and how swift has changed over the past year.

What's next for BeeFree

Refining of the code, since we only had 21 hours, the code and app design is not perfect. After this, we might develop this into a full application and submit it into the App Store.
