Inspiration
Our inspiration came from the diversity of our own group, and how society has been harmed at large by implicit biases. Stereotypes that are accepted by society creates barriers of entry for thousands of people each year, which reduces the freedom of those individuals.
What it does
BIAST is a fun memory game, and also a great way of making aware of any biases or stereotypes that they might have.
How we built it
We built BIAST as a windows desktop application using C++ and MFC in Visual Studio.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered an issue that held us back for a quite a while, as our IDE wouldn't support MFC. To overcome this challenge, we decided to separate our responsibilities to a greater extent, and make due coding on one computer. Not only this, but one of our group's members computer failed, so we recreated the lost data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built BIAST from the ground up, and all of our group's members had a great time developing it, as well as learning a lot from each other.
What we learned
We learned that teamwork and a solid plan to complete our deliverable is crucial to reach our goals.
What's next for BIAST
If we are supported in improving BIAST, we have decided to focus our attention on increasing playability in terms of variability, including psychological research methods, apply tests to research subjects and collect data, developing a more user friendly GUI, diversify BIAST to multiple platforms, especially mobile platforms, and finally market BIAST to communities to better society
