Inspiration - Desktop Goose
This whole project was inspired by my love for Desktop Goose created by Samperson. In that game, you are given a goose that roams your desktop. It leaves footprints, steals your cursor, and drags memes on to the screen. It's a lot of fun, and I recommend you try it out.
What it does
Creates a Desktop buddy that can display different messages.
How we built it
Python with PyQt5 on Pycharm.
Challenges we ran into
Our team was formed on Wednesday, just 2 days before the end of the Liquid Hacks time period. Our team only met live once as we have one person NA east, one person NA west, and one person EU. Let's just say time was not on our side.
Also, I'm an English major. I struggled to get the GUI to show the match results. Because of this, live match results aren't announced by Blue but rather printed into the console.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Packaging this as an EXE, setting an internal timer, and making a real finished product!
What we learned
Adrian: Is a project manager so he learned a bit of code work. Crystal(Sherry): Learned to use git a bit, and sharpened Python skills and learned this PyQt5 package! RJsaurus(me): Learned how to use APIs for the first time, how to use GUI tools for the first time.
What's next for Blue For Desktop
This same API setup to collect and publish "new" results could become a Twitter or Discord update bot. If Liquid people want, they can make their own Blue for Desktop for Liquid+. It would be cool if Blue randomly gave poynts and announced events and streams and results!
