Bountyscape is a community-owned platform transforming the flawed employer-contractor model! It provides fair access to bounties for anyone around the world utilising the power of a web3 ecosystem!​

Inspiration

The idea for bountyscape was born as an idea to significantly improve the employer-contractor relationship and especially to provide more certainty for people working on innovative projects!

We observed the following flaws:

1. Unfair work opportunities around the world: Due to the global distribution of people, and political or economic systems, there are very unfair working conditions and also unfair payments for often the same work.

2. Scams & Uncertainty: Generally in the digital world, but especially in the crypto sector, there is a high number of uncertainties and scams.

3. Expensive: Platforms that work jobs and bounties do exist, but these platforms are not built on a web3 system ... and often have high fees that mainly benefit the company behind them.

4. Complicated: In addition, such platforms are often complicated, especially web3 applications still have a relatively high entry barrier for the average citizen.

5. Legitimacy & Reputation​: The big advantage of a blockchain ecosystem is pseudonymity. However, models such as proof-of-humanity show that user privacy and legal regulations can go hand in hand.

Workflow:

  1. An employer creates a bounty, which is technically speaking an NFT on the Evmos chain. He or she also commits the rewards assigned to the bounty to the bountyscape treasury, where they a stored securely. Now the bounty is available on the bountyscape dashboard!

  2. A contractor claims the bounty, and can start working on it. Once he or she finished the bounty, the work can be submitted to the platform.

  3. The employer can review the work and if everything looks fine, he or she can approve it!

  4. The contractor can now claim the bounty NFT and actually own it as a cool badge in his or her profile! He or she can also claim the rewards connected to the task from the treasury or simply stake it via our delegated staking option.

Furthermore, we integrated a loyalty system into the platform logic. For every bounty you create, you earn 1 bountyscape token (BST) and for every successfully completed work, you will earn 5 BST!

Depending on your level, you will have reduced claiming fees. The standard fee starts at 2.5% and goes down to actually only 1% with the GOAT Scaper level!

How we built it

Frontend-wise we created a next.js typescript application with RainbowKit and daisyUI as UI components. The delegated staking option is using the evmos-ts logic to allow easy Evmos staking through your Metamask wallet!

Backend-wise we used the foundry suit for creating and testing our smart contracts, which was a great experience. Furthermore, as we needed a simple solution for submitting one contractor´s work to bountyscape, we set up firebase storage that allows easy creation and access of blob data. To have an even better user experience with low latencies, we created and deployed our own IPFS gateway, which allows blazing fast loading times of your bounty NFT metadata.

  • We build the whole prototype in just 3 weeks and are very happy with the things we archived so far

What we learned

  • The cosmos ecosystem was very new for us and it is quite exciting!

What's next for Bountyscape

  • RetroBounties! To further support the public goods movement in the web3 world, we think that bountyscape will be an amazing platform to allow the easy coordination and execution environment for the retroactive public goods funding!
  • as this is the first public release of our bountyscape idea, not all our ideas are incorporated yet! If we get the chance to work further on this concept some major future features are:
  • make the treasury auto-compounding the current balance to staking options
  • support other ERC-20/ICS-20 assets
  • create a DAO governance system, rewarding active users even further!
  • build a reputation system for both contractor and employer to get even more certainty for each party
  • the concept of interchain accounts could be a very great option in the future, to allow even more people to access bountyscape and abstract the blockchain component even further
