Inspiration

Our inspiration came from the challenges students face when planning their college courses. Many struggle to balance prerequisites, majors, and career goals. So we wanted to create a tool that simplifies academic planning by generating a clear, personalized four-year schedule.

What it does

Our project takes a student’s major and career goals as input, then uses a refined database to automatically generate a personalized four-year academic plan. Hopefully, it will help students stay organized and on track for graduation without the stress of making a schedule on their own.

How we built it

We began by utilizing the databases provided by Preetish. After filtering, sorting, and merging them, we refined the data into a single comprehensive database. Using this optimized dataset, we integrated a prompt that takes the user’s major and career choice as input to automatically generate a personalized four-year academic schedule.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was platform compatibility. The system worked smoothly on macOS but ran into issues on Windows. We also faced token size and data processing limits, which required us to downsize the database while preserving all essential information.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully overcame data processing limits by efficiently filtering and sorting the database without losing any essential information. This allowed our system to run smoothly while maintaining accuracy and reliability.

What we learned

We learned how to efficiently manage and optimize large datasets, handle platform compatibility issues, and design prompts that generate meaningful outputs. We also gained experience in collaboration, debugging, and balancing performance with data accuracy.

What's next for BU Road Map

We plan to expand the system by adding variables such as studying abroad, pursuing a minor or double major, and changing majors. These features will make the generated academic plans even more flexible and personalized.
