Inspiration
Creativity like a campfire, to coax a fire into existence requires a little bit of planning and sometimes a lot of patience. Whether you're an established artist or a complete beginner, starting a drawing is hard. Campfyer helps you develop interesting shape language and intriguing colour pallets to help you move your thumbnail sketches to the next level.
What it does
Campfire works by generating attractive shape language following the pattern of big, medium and small. By deciphering the shapes, it trains the artist to develop their sense of creativity. Pausing the 'Auto Draw' feature allows the artist to draw over the canvas and add to the shapes Campfyer provides. After the artist is happy with how the thumbnail is looking, they can choose to save their thumbnail at a click of a button.
How we built it
Campfyer works from your browser! It's built upon p5.js. The website saves itself so you can continue using Campfyer even when you're offline!
Challenges we ran into
Both being new to working with javascript was a wild experience, however, the most difficult challenge was figuring out a way to generate organic-looking shapes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Putting Campfyer to use was the most satisfying feeling ever. You know you did a good job using your program as you intended it to work. While the controls are still a work in progress, actually brainstorming and drawing on Campfyer is a fast and dynamic experience, exactly as we hoped for!
What we learned
As two artists, Campfyer is something entirely outside of our comfort zone. While we knew this project was ambitious, and to achieve a functioning product, we had to learn to drop features that we wanted for the sake of having a working product.
What's next for CampFyer
- Better colour controls by implementing a colour picker.
- Better organic shape generation as the current code is beyond rudimentary.
- Better user interface.
- Being able to keep track and rewind each shape generated.
- Other shape styles!
- so so so so so much more :D untill next time! - Team Rocket blasting off again!
