Inspiration

We had to carpool for over 50 minutes to arrive at this event (and get back home each day, so over 200 minutes of commute total), and also commonly carpool in our everyday lives. Instead of messy texts between groups of friends, we wanted to create an easier way to casually ask for rides, or offer to drive too!

What it does

CarpTo allows users to create their own carpooling profile, add others as friends, and see posts for ride requests or ride offers. Users can join carPOOLS (groups of users) to connect with others at their school/workplace.

How we built it

We used Firebase for authentication and Firestore for storing data. The app was made with the Flutter framework and the programming language Dart.

Challenges we ran into

We weren't able to commit and push in Github for the longest time. Someone was NEVER able to so we had to copy and paste their code manually... We also overestimated our rookie abilities and brainstormed a project that was too ambitious and large-scale.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

John Doe. No, but we think our UI is pretty clean. We were also able to go from nothing to something. We just learned flutter and many basic coding skills.

What we learned

How to code and create a mobile app.

What's next for CarpTo

A new page that has pending rides, splitting the gas cost, and some sort of mapping system with Google Maps API.
