Inspiration

Our game was greatly inspired by the games Exit 8 and Doors.

Plot

John Doe, the main character, is finishing up with a routine hospital inspection when he finds himself looping in the same hallway. He has to solve puzzles & avoid dangers to hopefully escape.

How we built it

We created our own game engine using JavaScript & HTML, our own music & sound effects using flat.io and Audacity, and backgrounds, assets, and all animations were made with a combination of GIMP, Paint.NET, & Blender. The final project was over 2300 lines of code!

Challenges we ran into

We weren't able to add all the story that we made for the game & weren't able to add all the assets we created for it. In addition, it was a great challenge to add all of the rendering mp4's in HTML Canvas, and it took quite a while to get it to render properly without flickering constantly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We made the vast majority of our own assets, including backgrounds, animations, cut-scenes, and our full OST.

What we learned

We learned primarily not to overestimate how much time we get to think for concepts for games. Moreover, we didn't have the asynchronous processing an experienced dev team would have. It is likely time could have been saved if assets were produced sooner. A lot of the time was spent switching between 2d and 3d before finally settling on 3d.

What's next for Case X

The next step for Case X is to be able to create a tutorial to make the learning curve easier for new players. In addition, dialogue and a plot-line was written as well, but we didn't have enough time to implement it.

How to Play

Use A and D to move left and right. Use E to interact with doors to move between rooms. Use Left Click to press buttons. In Case 1, there will be no anomalies in any of the 3 rooms, everything will be normal so you can see what normal looks like. Every time you make a mistake or die to a threat, you get sent back only one case, to keep the game less punishing and more fair. The goal is to get to Case X (10) and beat it to finish the game.

There are only ever up to 2 anomalies per room.

Operating Room 1 (Anatomy)

  1. Heart on the Wrong Side
  2. Extra Humerus on the Leg
  3. Liver on the Palm
  4. Two Diaphragms
  5. Humerus is TINY
  6. Pancreas Upside-down
  7. Oversized Intestines
  8. Kidneys are Missing

Radiology (Xray)

  1. Cardiomegaly (Big heart)
  2. Broken Ribs
  3. Pneumothorax (Too much air in lungs)
  4. Blunting of Costophrenic Angle
  5. Lung Cancer
  6. (radio34) Hydropneumothorax (ONLY ON ITS OWN BTW)

Operating Room 2 (Surgical Instruments)

  1. The Hemostat could be replaced by a Bone Saw
  2. The forceps could be replaced by a Foley Catheter

Monsters/Threats

Play the game to find out their cues and which rooms they spawn!
