Inspiration
45% of Vancouver's population live in residential high-rise buildings (a residential building = 5 stories or higher). Most of these buildings still use paper notices to communicate to residents, but what if you never pass by the lobby to read them? Or what if you don't have time to stand there to read the fine print of each poster? We aim to tackle that problem along with common problems residents face.
What it does
The mobile app allows residents to receive news in real-time and to make maintenance and room requests quickly and efficiently, without the troublesome back and forth communication that is normally found. Residents are also able to build community engagement through the ability to post to connect or share materials with their neighbours.
How I built it
We used Firebase for authentication, CockroachDB for database, React for frontend, and Node.js for backend.
Challenges I ran into
Working remotely created more friction than initially thought and different timezones created some challenges for our team.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Building an app in 24 hours, pushing ourselves mentally and physically.
What I learned
Project management and how to work efficiently remotely.
What's next for Cassa
Build out the app on the building manager side of things and include more features such as statuses of laundry machines and parking spaces.
