Inspiration
We are passionate about ensuring projects being utilized for carbon credits have an open data ecosystem to ensure digital measurement, reporting and verification of emissions utilizing the latest technologies available e.g IoT, Satellite systems, etc
What it does
The project provides IoT devices to parties that wish to use Chevtrox services. The IoT devices track the carbon emissions of these parties, which are then funneled to co2.storage by Filecoin and processed in the blockchain. This allows users to burn carbon credits associated with their IoT device and trade them with others without needing to remember lengthy wallet addresses.
The project uses A.I to analyze the data from the IoT devices, enabling stakeholders to forecast carbon emissions and take actions to gradually reduce them.
The Chevtrox project also leverages blockchain technologies, including the utilization of the Hedera Token Service (HTS), which serves as carbon credits for users to mint and trade on the blockchain. This enables carbon emitters to offset their carbon emissions as tracked by the IoT device.
Chevtrox project also auctions data on Bigdata.io, which includes climate data collected from the IoT devices. This data is stored in a time series format and contains information about the climate conditions at specific locations. Researchers, data scientists, and anyone interested in understanding climate conditions and their impact on the environment can use this dataset to make informed decisions and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
How we built it
The Chevtrox project was built using a combination of IoT devices, A.I and blockchain technology. The IoT devices track carbon emissions, which are stored on the blockchain using a custom-built template.
The data is stored on co2.storage by Filecoin, which helps to maintain transparency and avoid a single point of failure. To achieve this, we created a microservice called co2 storage handler that picks our data and saves it on co2.storage
The blockchain technology used in this project is Hedera, which allows for a scalable and low-cost blockchain ecosystem. The Hedera Token Service serves as carbon credits for users to trade on the blockchain.
Finally, the data is auctioned on Bigdata.io along with relevant metadata and tools for researchers, data scientists, and anyone interested in understanding climate conditions and their impact on the environment.
Challenges we ran into
- Implementing Hedera seemed to be a bit tricky
- Combining several technologies was also very tedious, for the co2 storage, we had to create a separate microservice to bridge the gap between the IoT device and the co2 storage platform.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing a unique blend of IoT, A.I, and Blockchain technologies to address the issue of carbon emissions
Creating an IoT device with a unique ID registered on the blockchain. This enables users and companies to track their carbon emissions, which can be a complex and challenging process.
Storing carbon emissions data on decentralized storage (co2.storage by Filecoin) instead of traditional cloud storage.
Creating a Microservice to make co2.storage accessible to the IoT, and building a custom schema for the Chevtrox IoT devices.
What we learned
Technical skills: We learned about the hedera ecosystem, as well as the CO2.Storage, and rollout plans in Filecoin Green. we also learned about platforms such as big data storage.
Other skills: We had to combine several new technologies and this was only possible through good collaboration and persistence, we learned the value of good communication and collaboration.
What's next for Chevtrox Ventures
We are looking forward to initiating and partnering with climate-friendly projects while implementing an effective platform for digital measurement, reporting, and verification of projects globally.
