Dogs?
What it does
Each player registers with a username and password and is given a small dog avatar to explore our procedurally generated beach-scape world. There is a central HUB where players can meet and connect across multiple devices, and then together in small parties they may venture out into their dangerous surroundings filled with dancing skeletons that have been raised from the dead by an evil necromancer. The dogs mission is simple: lay these skeletons back to their peaceful slumber - gaining good boy points (XP) in the process.
How we built it
Our server and database was built using flask, while the client end was built using pygame with an embedded tkinter window. The landscapes (beyond the hub which remains the same every time) was generated by simulating cellular automata.
Challenges we ran into
An extremely out of date mac that could not handle anything. Poor WIFI.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The extremely cute dog animation walking/sitting/tail wagging.The procedural generation of the maps. The communication between client and server.
What we learned
Love is all around us.
What's next for Chonkers
Implement dog classes, items and a more detailed hub with shops etc. Allow for more complex enemies that are actually able to cause damage. Implements snaccs for hungry dogs. Most importantly: allow petting.
