Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was our experiences with a busy college schedule. We find that this often makes it impossible to fit a quick, good meal into the day. All the information the app requires is available online. However, it's simply too much work to read all this information separately and determine if it fits your schedule and preferences.
What it does
With its unique sorting algorithm, ChowNow saves and factors in your preferences for food and travel distance, as well as restaurant activity level at various hours, ensuring that you get a meal that you'll love and won't have to wait long for. Plus, we're currently working to integrate future price information into our algorithm, so you can choose the most affordable options that fit your budget.
How we built it
The app was built using React.js as our front end, Django as our back end, and Cockroach as our database system.
Challenges we ran into
-Creating a JSON file from class attributes. -Git Storage issues, so we moved to Git LFS. -Integrating Cockroach database into our code. -Connecting the front-end to the back end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-A working back-end that sorts and finds all data we need correctly and quickly. -Created a front end from scratch. -Successful integration of the Cockroach database.
What we learned
We learned how to use Google Maps and Places API. We learned how to create a quiz form that interacts with a database. We learned how to use Cockroach database. We learned how to use Git LFS.
What's next for Chownow
A stable build, budget integration, and more activities like clubbing.
