Inspiration

Both team members have done a lot of research into climate change issues. For this project we were inspired by city-building games and wanted to make one that was focused on encouraging players to pursue sustainable development. Fuels such as coal would be initially rewarding, but the settlement would eventually face decline if it did not transition.

What it does

The game is incomplete but it is able to manage resources and turns, and there are established templates for each type of building.

How we built it

We built the game using Unity, and used WebGL and an IFrame to embed the game into a webpage.

Challenges we ran into

Everything in Unity was a challenge. It was the best game IDE we could find to create what we wanted but it required a lot of work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were proud of our efforts to figure out Unity and WebGL, as well as our teamwork. One of the hardest challenges we overcame in Unity was figuring out how to make building templates, which was especially difficult because neither of us knew C# or Unity's interface very well.

What we learned

Making games in Unity as a beginner is tough.

What's next for Climate Game

For the developers sleep, lots of sleep.
