Inspiration

“Scientists estimate the equivalent of one garbage truck full of plastic pollution enters our oceans every minute. It is further estimated that at this rate, by the year 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish (by weight).”

The Zip team tried to address this issue by taking a proactive and practical approach and building an application that is intended to raise public awareness and educate youth to make more sustainable choices.

What it does

It requires the assembly of mosaiced pieces of a picture, which showcases ocean pollution once it is fully assembled.

How I built it

We built the application in Python using its interactive pygame library.

Challenges I ran into

We had numerous small technical challenges all along the project. Nevertheless, together we were able to come up with a solution every single time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are really proud of our teamwork - each of us was able to contribute uniquely to the project and make it more than sum of its parts.

What I learned

Our learning during this 24-hour fun challenge can be described as two sides of one coin. On the one side, we significantly improved our technical know-how by building and fixing. On the other side, we all became better team players by having open discussions about each others mistakes and coming to collective conclusions.

What's next for Climate Puzzle

These are additional steps we would like to take :

  1. Add a level system.
  2. Add a reward system.
  3. Add additional functionalities, such as featuring people who work on the front line in ocean pollution with young people who might not be aware of the issue but play a critical role in our fight against pollution.
