Inspiration
The inspiration behind ConcertBuddy came from a problem that some of us may be familiar with - wanting to go to a concert but having no friends to go with. We wanted to create a platform where people with a similar problem can connect, meet, and go to the concert together!
What it does
Users should be able to create an account, provide some information about their favorite artists, interests and location, and get a feed of concerts that they might be interested in. From there, they can pick a concert or event, see other people who also want to attend that concert and have the option to connect with them!
How we built it
We deployed the application on Heroku, React for front-end, Flask for back-end, MongoDB for storing user information, and pulled concert data using TicketMaster's API.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was that we each had a different back-end stack that we were comfortable with. We also originally planned to be using a SQL database but we had to cut it and switch because it was giving our back-end some trouble. In the end, we decided to use Flask and MongoDB. We also had scope-creep, where the list of features we wanted to add kept piling up and we had to hack our plans down to reach a more feasible goal.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to build and deploy this website within the 36 hours allowed to us. It took some sleepless nights but we did it!
What we learned
Time management is key when working with a tight deadline. We also learned when to make a decision for a change when things are not working out for us instead of going for broke.
What's next for ConcertBuddy
We wanted to implement a chat feature, and an ML algorithm that can predict people that are a good match for each other and also concerts that the user would be interested in
