Inspiration

We realized that our whole team has been struggling to manage their expenses and were looking for a management application. However, many of the organizing apps that are available have much too complicated or inconvenient functions, such as pre-assigned categories that didn't fit our needs. We wanted an application that would allow us to organize our spendings while assigning our own categories. In the end we came up with the idea to create our own expense management application that not only fit our needs, but the needs of many other that are struggling with the same drawback.

What it does

Costegory categorizes spendings based on the users needs and preferences. It gives the user the ability to customize their spending categories and organize their expenses in order to find those pesky deductible expenses. Costegory's main aim is to help users take control of their finances in the easiest, most stress-free way possible!

How we built it

We brainstormed ideas to narrow down what features we will have in our application. Then we set up the coding environment to start building it. Since we had limited time, we worked by dividing roles. When there were difficulties, we proceeded with each other's help and expanded what we knew to each other.

Challenges we ran into

Since this was our first hackathon, we didn't have enough confidence that we could do well. In fact, we faced several major technical difficulties along the way. However, we feel great joy in solving such problems together with our team members and completing our first team application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment is how far we got into completing the project! We are also very proud of overcoming said challenges above and getting through our very first hackathon successfully!

What we learned

We learned about model view controllers; some of using and learning about API and UIs for the first time while also expanded on our teamwork skills.

What's next for Costegory

Adding more features and improving on the application until it is ready for publication. Features such as adding a pie chart that will help visualize expenses and making it more compatible with different devices and other applications.
