Inspiration

Within a span of few weeks, COVID-19 has grown from a few thousand cases to over a million. The rapid growth of this pandemic has made very difficult to track and trace. Experts believe that there are 4 times more cases than we know. This happens due to a lack of resources for testing. The current process to book a test is to dial a hotline number and report our symptoms. This makes it very hard to keep a record of all the people who report symptoms. That leaves many people untested who could be infected and may infect others. To solve this we need to keep track of people who think they're infected and are showing symptoms. This is what Covidspace does.

What it does

Covidspace is a platform where a person can request for a test. To book a test the user needs to provide information such as phone number, govt id and all of their symptoms. After one submits a test it will send the details including the user's location to testing facilities. It will also notify all the users nearby about the potential risk.

It keeps users informed about the number of cases or potential cases nearby, the number of confirmed cases globally and locally and as well as provides information related to hospital beds availability in their region.

How I built it

I used Google Cloud for hosting the app, Firebase for authentication, Google Geolocation API for tracking cases, Google Places to show nearby health centers and Google App engine to get live data related to COVID-19 cases and Hospital Beds availability.

I used UI Path to get Data from Hospitals regarding the bed count and as well as number of cases from Worldometers.

Challenges I ran into

Having the UI Path scrape the data automatically and update the database was challenging but I finally figured it. Another challenge was trying to integrate multiple API at the same time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I have learned a lot about building mobile apps on Google Cloud Platform. I have also learned about Google Firebase, Maps API, Places API.

I have learned about using UI Path to automate scraping and integrating the data in realtime with mobile applications.

What's next for Covidspace

I am trying to integrate more features on maps like grocery stores and calculating the safest path to buy groceries taking into account the infected people's location.
