Inspiration

As college students, we understand how hard it can be to navigate life while transitioning into adulthood. We built Cowlendar as an AI companion that reminds you to actively engage with your life, and take charge of your time.

Originally sparked by a relatable comment about missing lectures throughout the semester, we realized that many students fall into this habit (as we witness firsthand in lecture halls and in our own actions), and we wanted to create a way to curb this habit of missing scheduled commitments. And so, we created Cowlendar.

What it does

Cowlendar gamifies your calendar tasks, and sends you prompts about calendar events that have occurred, allowing you to take care of your own personal AI companion, Clove. Clove's mood is affected by how consistently you complete tasks you have planned to do. This encourages users to actively complete tasks to keep Clove healthy and happy.

How we built it

We used Electron to create the frontend for an operating system widget. We used Python and Claude MCPs to create an AI-focused backend.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into the challenge of connecting our frontend and backend, because we allocated 2 team members for each. It took much longer than we had anticipated to get everything working seamlessly, but luckily, we started early, and so we were able to get everything working in time for judging!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are so proud of what we built, and we are so excited to share it with you! Here are some highlights:

  • We created a custom automated AI workflow to allow the user to use Clove effectively and efficiently. The prompts are decided based on this workflow, allowing for unique messages and better interactions.
  • We really love our little mascot, Clove, that we created ourselves. I hope you love it as much as we've grown to!
  • We integrated with both Google Calendar and Notion, so we can provide a more comprehensive view of what users truly have coming up for a better user experience.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the power of AI-assisted development, and how Claude MCPs work and can be used to create more personal user experiences. We also learned about the importance of ideation and proper planning before jumping into project work, so that non-negotiable features can be identified and worked on before deadlines! We have a great time and learned so much!

What's next for Cowlendar

We will be exploring other potential avenues for the Cowlendar experience, and seeing if other displays, like a mobile app would be convenient for users. We also plan to expand the features currently offered for a better user experience! Stay tuned! We're so excited for this!
