Inspiration

Last summer, Forbes called the creator economy a “$250 billion global force” and Goldman Sachs believes it is “projected to reach $480 billion by 2027”. This phenomenon has reached nearly everyone with a social media account by now, and it has even helped one of our group members with her personal expenses. We believe that all forms of art and media, including content creation, deserves a portfolio platform much like how filmmakers have IMDB and music composers have Scorefolio.

What it does

Createscape acts as an all-in-one content creator portfolio and analytics app for content creators and businesses. Simply link all of your social media accounts and it will add all of your content to your profile and the feeds of others instantly. It analyzes and outputs your accounts’ views and follower growth across your platforms and helps to categorize them with topic tags and metadata that can be shared with potential clients and collaborators.

How we built it

Createscape’s user interface was first prototyped in based on concepts sketched on a whiteboard at the start of the hackathon, and that design guided development of the live frontend built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, and the React framework. The public repository contains the main product code along with links to the product code behind the application, while a separate private repository, cloned from the public one, stores environment configurations and Vercel hosting files. The backend was developed using Python and Flask with SQLAlchemy as the ORM, and integrated tools and services including Dedalus Labs for AI workflows, Gemini, and Flowglad to support functionality and automation.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we ran into while building this included working under a tight time crunch and dealing with technical limitations, such as not having immediate access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack and difficulties scraping information from social media accounts. Early planning required significant coordination, as we had to balance many different opinions, define the platform’s structure, decide on sponsor tracks and technologies, and organize our workflow for the weekend. Co-working with each other and our tools also created challenges because of merge conflicts, which meant we needed to quickly understand and debug code ourselves. Additionally, interpreting and aligning with sponsor expectations added another layer of complexity throughout the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some of the features we are proud of are successfully incorporating more sponsors than any of us had previously worked with in a hackathon project, while seamlessly integrating a wide range of technologies in a way that felt natural and improved the product’s usability. Throughout the project, we significantly expanded our technical skills, including developing a stronger understanding of React, learning new tools and technologies, gaining experience with web scraping and APIs, and working with SQL databases for the first time. We also became more effective at summarizing progress and communicating clearly so teammates could smoothly switch tasks and maintain momentum during long work sessions. In addition, we are proud of grounding the platform in real content creator perspectives, drawing on past experiences, especially Leah’s work creating content for education and food businesses, to shape thoughtful, practical features that we know we will use beyond the hackathon.

What we learned

  1. Learned how to use and integrate Dedalus API and Google Gemini where we used each sponsor’s tool in a way that enhanced Createscape’s functionality, like leveraging Dedalus Labs for AI workflows and Gemini as our LLM of choice for automation rather than using them superficially.
  2. We gained experience by whiteboarding sketches for the UI of an app at a hackathon, as most hackathons we attended in the past did not have location access to whiteboards as we learned how to work these designs into a working frontend, refining layouts and user flows.
  3. We developed strategies to summarize work and explain task handoffs within a hackathon group with the greatest number of people we have ever worked with.

What's next for Createscape

Adding more content platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and others that utilize short-form video content are also huge goals of ours as we find those to be some of the most popular social media apps in our generation. Other future enhancements include real API integration for creator data, advanced search and filtering, user authentication and profiles, bookmark/favorite system, direct messaging between users, analytics dashboard with real charts, mobile app versions and AI-powered creator recommendations.
