Inspiration
Creature Quest brings the creature collector genre to Horizon Worlds. Inspired by classic Pokemon games as well as trending Quest games like Ug and Ruffnauts, Creature Quest invites players to explore a vibrant open world filled with magical creatures to fight, collect, and befriend. Level up your creatures to unlock harder regions, then team up to face giant bosses or duel your friends in PvP matches.
How we built it
Creature Quest includes over 50 unique creatures and a half dozen levels to explore, a scope comparable to PC/console games with years of development time. To build this huge amount of content in only a couple weeks, we leveraged Horizon Worlds’ generative AI tools to create the majority of our creature models, levels, and sound effects. We manually polished the generated assets, adding custom evolution lines, blink animations, boss arenas, and custom layered sound effects to get the best possible quality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed several custom tools to help with the unique challenges of creating a large-scale RPG. Our spline-based animation system lets creatures express their actions and personality visually, making the game feel alive. Our procedural spawning and LOD system lets us have hundreds of spawn points across all the levels without impacting performance. Our script-based approach to creature data lets any team member easily define and add creatures, letting us easily add dozens of new creatures each day.
What's next for Creature Quest
In the future, we hope to give Creature Quest an even longer progression curve, adding more regions with high-level or legendary creatures to battle and collect. We also want to add stronger social systems, such as daily quests, trading with other players, and personal housing.
