Inspiration

Our inspiration for Cyboard came in two parts. The name and the game. The game was thought of by Aidan Young(13) and me(Jared Duggal(14)). We thought of the game because we were discussing what we wanted to do and decided that it would be nice to make some conventional board games into online versions. As well we were both working we a lot of 3d models and decided to make a VR game called Forest dash! It is the main attraction of the website. We had many names from unnboarded, digitaly unboard, bored games, so many others we decided on cyboard because it combines the board games and digital aspect in one name.

What it does

There are three games on the website and you can pick which one you want to play. This game was built for people who might not have access to board games and might want to play them. It was also designed for entertainment purposes. The snakes and ladders game and the connect 4 game are both digitized versions of the real life game. The forest dash is a game in which have to navigate through forests in VR terrain and you try to get a trophy. Some places will have odd and even squares which show if you go back or forward.

How we built it

We built the website using HTML and CSS, the other games were made purely from JavaScript and the VR world was made by tinkercad models being rendered and animated in aframe and three.js which are both VR development libraries. The advanced security measures including the cross site scripting or XSS filter were made from JavaScript as well. We did not use any engines or anything we made everything from scratch and even made the models in there from scratch.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were time management and rendering/computing speed. Both of these were limiting factors in this because it was hard to render stuff on low computing power. For time management we were really rushed but got it in barely on time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments that were proud of is getting through barriers and learning so much. Some specific barriers include not knowing how to turn file forms around in a zip file and not knowing how to group all the 3d models together for less lag. I'm very proud of our team for finishing the project well within submission times and not being late to completion

What we learned

Some big things that we learned were about lag and the amount of 3d models possible on a page. We also learned about the importance of cyder security and that is why I added an advanced XSS filter and tried to make sure all code was safe. Some other things we learned was how important team chemistry is and to make sure that we are working together right and not arguing/fighting that slows down everything and raises tensions. I am going to keep a lot of lesson I learned through this hackathon for other hackathons and through out life with groupwork, Aidan learned a lot about leadership skills and how to make everyone focus on the problem at hand.

What's next for Cyboard

Cyboard's next project will be memory games and then other games we will add more games and more styling to the website. Hoping to release the actual project soon and get people to play. In the future we would like to expand this game to the max and maybe even take more specialized people on board. Thank you for your time and we hope you enjoy!!!
