Inspiration
Looking into the challenges, the 2D Top Down Shooter challenge caught our eyes. We were fans of games like Enter The Gungeon, so we decided to make a software development inspired bullethell game. With the addition of alcohol, Redbulls and sleep deprivation, DevAttack was born.
What it does
DevAttack is a simple multiplayer game that allows two friends to play against each other in a bullethell game. However, they don't fight each other, they fight against viruses and bugs, and the last one to survive wins.
How we built it
We looked into certain game engines like Unity, Godot and Unreal Engine. We then determined that Godot was the best option as it was beginner friendly, which is good for us since we have no experience in game development. We then learnt Godot from scratch, made our own assets, and found music online to build the game.
Challenges we ran into
Certain challenges we ran into was many merge conflicts an the implementation of multiplayer into our game. Additionally, learning Godot in 24 hours as a challenge in itself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of two major things. Firstly, we learnt game development with Godot and developed a game in 24 hours. Secondly, we're proud of our sprites, since we know that our artistic abilities aren't the best.
What we learned
During this Hackaton, we learnt the challenges of game development and also how to use Godot for it.
What's next for DevAttack
The next step for DevAttack is adding the possibility of having more players, making the game ad the game loop more smooth, and also add more unique weapons and enemies.
