Inspiration
84% of Americans with a monthly budget say they've sometimes exceeded their budget (Nerdwallet 2023 survey). The problem with most "savings" apps is that they help people plan on a monthly basis but most people actually plan and pay bills on a weekly basis.
I was inspired by growing up and living in NYC and having first hand experience of people not being able to use savings apps because they really needed help with managing their bills and balancing their budgets on a week to week basis first.
What it does
Due helps people manage and pay bills on a week to week basis in order for get to control of their money and bills, avoid surprises & help them begin to build longer term savings.
Due:
Helps people manage how money is spent and saved by planning & tracking when bills are due each week, against when people are paid.
Helps people understand which bills will come out of which paycheck by re-distributing monthly paychecks into weekly income.
Allocates money for weekly bills right away so that "due" money is reserved and can't be spent.
Sends out reminders a few days ahead, 1 day and day of so people can track it.
Helps people "see ahead" - upcoming bills as well as week in review.
Helps find opportunities to set aside money for savings and investment opportunities.
How we built it
With Bolt - eventually will integrate into a back end and convert into more of a proper mobile app.
Challenges we ran into
None yet - except that EXPO doesn't always seem to work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a product that has been tested with real users.
What we learned
People also would like some kind of coach as well.
What's next for Due
Integrate an AI coach feature that people can use as a virtual advisor (thinking of calling her "Stella" who will help people get their financial groove back)
