Inspiration
The current age and day crowds everyone with information. Echo chambers all over the place drawing spirals towards good or towards bad. Using the same idea, we created a website that allows the user to become in tune in their own positive thoughts. A constant reminder of how there's always plenty of things to be grateful for. An echo chamber that echos back all the happy moments the user has thought of and logged.
The idea is based on how perspective from sources like "Design Your Life" from Stanford and Harvard studies on happiness. We hope this can help the users with their mental health. :)
What it does
Logs anything that the user wants to, but only for the current date. Our idea was that the user would be able to take note of all the good things, no matter how small, happening around them. So our project stores all of the users logs inside of a mongo atlas database, so that they can remember and look at everything they logged prior to the current date, as well as possibly look at what other users have logged as well. The user can then click on any of the dates represented on our UI's calendar (using FullCalendar), and see what they logged that day.
The website is just made to be a serene place of happy moments. Just a place that serves as a reminder that there's plenty of happy moments in life just that we tend to gloss over them. Also serves to help the user get used to noticing these moments by prompting them to log.
How we built it
With VS code and creativity. We primarily used HTML, CSS, and JS for all of our code. The front end is done completely with HTML, CSS, and JS with the help of libraries jQuery, FullCalendar, and p5.js. The back end is done with the help of express.js and node.js in order to configure and run our web server to properly post/get data from our database.
Challenges we ran into
Teamwork and communication were poorly thought out and executed. Also the front to backend data movement took a bit. And the user interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It works and does what we wanted to finish. And we are confident that we can add all of the features we first thought of if given enough time.
What we learned
A whole lot of new tools and connecting from back end to front end.
What's next for echo...echo
With more time, we can increase the echo chamber to include friends. Social connectivity helps a lot with mental health.
