What it does

EduForum is a dynamic online forum designed to connect and empower first-generation low-income students who share common educational backgrounds. This platform facilitates seamless networking, information sharing, and collaboration among students while promoting their sense of belonging within the educational institution they attend.

Key Features:

Onboarding:

  • Educational institutions register on the platform.
  • Students sign up using basic information: Name and Email.
  • Verification for institution affiliation involves providing university details, start/end dates, and an alumni-token confirmation via email. This can be done later. Once verified, a notification is sent to the institutional email for validation.

Multi-Institutional Affiliation:

  • Students can affiliate with multiple educational institutions.
  • Flexibility in managing different affiliations.

Channel/Group Creation:

  • Students create specialized channels with:
    • Channel Name
    • Short and Long Descriptions
    • Channel Type
    • Joining Criteria (public, institution-affiliated, or selective)
  • Creators automatically become Founders and Managers of channels.
  • If affiliated with an institution, institutions can modify channel managers.
  • If not affiliated with any institution, the channel becomes publicly available. Note: Channel and Group mean the same thing in the application

Channel Structure:

  • Four primary sections within each channel:
    • Chat: Text and media-based communication.
    • Users: Displaying all members in the channel.
    • Events: Listing past and upcoming events.
    • Gallery: A visual collection of events and content.
    • Challenge: Engaging activities for rewards (concept in development).

Joining Channels:

  • Access to channels depends on creator-defined criteria.
  • Channels can be public or institution-affiliated.

Benefits:

  • Foster collaboration among first-gen low-income students.
  • Bridge communication gaps between students and institutions.
  • Create a sense of belonging and support.
  • Encourage skill development through challenges.
  • Enhance networking opportunities within educational ecosystems.

Target Audience: -First-generation low-income students seeking connection and empowerment within their educational journey.

Market Potential: -Addressing the growing need for inclusivity and support for underrepresented student groups.

Conclusion: EduForum aims to revolutionize student networking by providing a tailored platform that enhances engagement, empowerment, and support for first-generation low-income students. Join us in shaping the future of educational connection and collaboration. EduForum – Empowering Futures Together!

How we built it

In this first phase, the application was built using only react.js.

Challenges we ran into

We had two challenges during the building process:

  1. Having a proper building plan for the idea.
  2. Management time to meet the desired deadline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In this phase, we were able to properly convey the concept of Eduforum using the web application, regardless of using mock data as an alternative because of the challenges we faced limited us to excluding the backend implementation.

What we learned

In building an application that has a limited amount of time, choosing resources that are quickly available.

What's next for Eduforum

Eduforum is a platform that tends to connect and engage students during their in school and even after graduation. The intention and plan is to make this a reality."
