What it does

ExSplinter is an ICON powered decentralised solution which simplifies expense sharing among friends and family. We consolidate all of your pooled expenditures, receivables and payables into a single area, simplifying the process of determining who owes what. All our transactions are fast, digital, secure and worldwide, which in essence allow the maintenance of records without risk of data being pirated. Our platform runs on cloud which enables you to access it from any device, including an iPhone, an Android smartphone, or a computer.

To get a new perspective on data, you can use our interactive dashboard to dive down and filter it. First glance at the dashboard gives useful insights that are deduced to enable data-driven company decisions, as it condenses and crisply presents the amount you are owed and the amount you owe to your friend via interactive drilled down charts. Because of the power of images, our presentation cuts through the audience.

The account screen allows you to view the overall net transaction value with each of your friends, family members or others. The smart indicator quickly draws your attention to the state of the account. The red indicator denotes the account where you owe to your friends and the green indicator symbolises that you are expected to get money from your friend or family member. There is a link available on the same screen to allow you to quickly settle the expense on the account in cryptocurrency in the choice of your friend or family member's cryptocurrency. These transactions are powered by ICON hence all our transactions are fast, digital, secure and worldwide, which in essence allow the maintenance of records without risk of data being pirated.

We will understand this with the settlement transaction. Ravi logs into ExSplinter and moves to the Accounts screen. The red indicator draws attention for the account to be settled. Ravi decides to settle an account with David and decides to initiate a settlement transaction. He fills up the details, selects the destination crypto currency and the system automatically calculates the destination currency value. Ravi submits the transactions and the solution interacts with ICON API to initiate the transaction. The account snapshot of before the transaction is shown on the screen. The ICON API selects the cryptocurrency transactions to be used for the transfer and completes the transaction. Here you can see that ICX coins are used for the settlement. After the settlement Ravi's account with Darren has turned green as there is no outstanding.

Here are a few key features of the solution.

By leveraging the power of cryptocurrencies our solution is one of its kind which lets you settle the expenses with your preferred cryptocurrency. The currency conversion rate feeds are updated daily from the ICON to a base value via batch process running end of day daily. The smart threshold feature keeps track of the account expenses and notifies you when your friend's account crosses the threshold, this could be a reminder for you to settle your expense. Our platform allows you to set up recurring payments and allows you to keep track of all activities related to you and your friends, relatives or colleagues. Offline access, expense import are part of the plethora of additional features which makes our platform state of the art, efficient, and most secure solution.

How we built it

Quickbase(Low Code No Code Platform), NodeJS, Typescript

Challenges we ran into

Difficulties with integration between a low-code platform and ICON API endpoints. This compelled us to think differently - we added another layer of abstraction, exposing coarse-grained ICON API end points that correspond to the workflow requirements deployed on cloud.

ExSplinter makes life easier when dividing a group vacation, rent expense with roommates, or repaying someone for lunch.
