What it does

FettyWay is an AI-powered goal-tracking app that takes your big ambitions and breaks them down into clear, actionable, and measurable steps. Whether you're aiming to learn a skill, build a habit, or achieve a major milestone, FettyWay creates a step-by-step roadmap tailored to your goal. You can track progress, check off completed tasks, and stay motivated with an intuitive interface.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating AI to break down goals into actionable steps was challenging, as we had to ensure OpenAI’s responses were structured and free from formatting issues. Designing an efficient database structure was crucial for storing and retrieving goals dynamically while ensuring user data persistence. Handling merge conflicts were a pain while collaborating on certain features. We also faced challenges in implementing real-time updates, ensuring state changes reflected instantly, and creating a seamless user experience for adding, tracking, and modifying goals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team of four freshmen, we built FettyWay, an AI-powered goal tracker that transforms overwhelming ambitions into clear, actionable steps. Successfully integrating AI to generate structured, step-by-step breakdowns was a major achievement, ensuring users receive practical guidance. Despite being early in our coding journey, we tackled frontend UI/UX challenges, creating a clean, responsive interface with real-time updates for seamless goal tracking. We also implemented efficient state management and structured a MongoDB database to store and retrieve user progress effectively. Overcoming technical hurdles like AI response formatting, API integration, merge conflicts, and debugging layout issues helped us grow as developers. Most importantly, we built something meaningful!

What we learned

As a team of four freshmen, building FettyWay taught us invaluable skills in full-stack development, AI integration, and teamwork. We gained hands-on experience with Next.js, MongoDB, and OpenAI’s API, learning how to structure a database, manage state efficiently, and format AI-generated responses for clarity. We faced frontend challenges, improving our understanding of responsive UI/UX design, CSS styling, and real-time updates.

What's next for FettyWay

We’re just getting started! Next, we plan to enhance AI personalization, allowing users to receive goal breakdowns tailored to their experience level and timeline. We want to integrate user authentication so people can save and track their goals across devices. Adding push notifications and reminders will help users stay consistent, while a progress analytics dashboard will provide insights into their achievements.
