Inspiration

Filey was initially inspired because so many file managers were out there, but none of them had the features I wanted. They were all too complex, or they didn't have enough flexibility or were intuitive enough.

So we created something unique: Filey is an intuitive and adaptable plug-and-play file manager with many features. Send files to your clients, create new users with dedicated folders, or use them as your cloud storage. Accessible from any device, with a straightforward administration interface for managing users and general settings, and fully customizable to your brand.

What it does

Filey is an intuitive and adaptable plug-and-play file manager with many features. Send files to your clients, create new users with dedicated folders, or use them as your cloud storage. Accessible from any device, with a straightforward administration interface for managing users and general settings, and fully customizable to your brand.

Filey allows you to send files directly to clients' email addresses or upload them to their dedicated folders. It also allows you to create new users with their dedicated folders within Filey's cloud storage system.

Filey's administration interface allows you to easily manage all aspects of the service, including creating new users, adding new folders and files, controlling existing ones, and deleting those no longer needed.

How we built it

We built Filey with three goals in mind:

  1. Simplicity

Filey is a simple way to manage and share your documents. It's designed to make it easy for anyone to create, edit, review, and share their content online.

  1. Adaptability

Filey is designed to be adaptable and flexible so that you can use it for various purposes. We want to ensure that Filey meets all its users' needs, no matter what they're using it for.

  1. Functionality

Filey is designed to be functional so that you can use it for various purposes. We want to ensure that Filey meets all its users' needs, no matter what they're using it for.

We started by identifying the problem: our clients needed an easy way to send files to each other and create new users with dedicated folders. We knew that plenty of other products out there tried to solve this problem, but none of them did it quite right. So we set out to build something better.

Our first step was to come up with a list of features that would make Filey stand out from the crowd:

-Accessible from any device

-Secure

-Easy to use but powerful enough for business use

-Easy to manage users and permissions

-A straightforward administration interface for managing users and general settings

-Compatible with all major browsers

-Free and open source, with a public repository on GitHub

-A sleek user interface

-Fully customizable to your brand

-Compatible with a variety of operating systems

-Accessible from any device (web, desktop, mobile)

-Secure (128-bit SSL encryption)

-Easy to use (no training required)

Filey was built using a combination of HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript with the help of some excellent open-source libraries such as:-Bootstrap

-jQuery

-Font Awesome

  • Bootstrap

-Ajax

-Spectrum

-Chart-js

-Tagin

For the backend, we used:

-Php

-Laravel

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several challenges while building Filey, but creating the user interface was the most difficult. We wanted to make it intuitive and adaptable while ensuring it was easy to navigate and use. We also wanted to ensure that the features were easy to use, so we spent a lot of time testing different options before we settled on what you see today.

Also

One of the biggest challenges we encountered was developing an intuitive and adaptable plug-and-play file manager that clients and employees could use. We wanted Filey to have a wide variety of features. Still, we also needed those features to be accessible from any device, with a straightforward administration interface for managing users and general settings, and fully customizable to your brand.

We found that the most challenging part of this process was making sure our design team had a clear vision for what we wanted Filey's interface to look like, as well as ensuring that our developers understood what each feature should be able to do having no previous experience working on similar projects before now.

Another challenge we faced was determining how many users each client would need access to within their dedicated folders or accounts - significantly since this number would vary depending on where they were located geographically (i.e., whether they were based in California or New York City).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Filey has been a project that we've worked on for years. It's the result of long hours and hard work, and we're proud to have made it through each step.

We've never been more excited than when we received our first paying customer—a small business that used Filey to store their data files and send them to clients. They love the user-friendly interface and all the features they can use to improve their workflow with Filey!

We're also proud that Filey is accessible from any device, so users can access their information no matter where they are or what device they have with them at the time. All of this makes it easier for them than ever before.

We're proud of our accomplishments in the following areas:

Intuitive and adaptable plug-and-play file manager with a multitude of features

Share files with clients, create users with dedicated folders, or use them to store your files.

Accessible from any device, with a straightforward administration interface for managing users and general settings

Fully customizable to your brand

What we learned

Filey is a tool that users can use to manage and share files with others. We added features like user management and security so that users could set up their accounts on Filey and share files with other users their administrator had invited. We also added support for client access tokens so clients could send files directly from their website (or app) without being prompted for credentials or account login. The result is a product that can be used as an easy way for people to share large files and manage those files at the same time!

When we began developing Filey, finding the right balance between simplicity and functionality would be challenging. We wanted to give our users all the features they'd need to run their business efficiently, but we also wanted to ensure that the interface was intuitive and easy for everyone. We tested different versions of Filey with real users to get feedback on how well we achieved this goal.

Additionally, we learned a great deal about what makes an excellent file-sharing platform: What people need from it. How they want it to work. How they interact with it daily.

What's next for Filey

We're working to improve Filey, focusing on ease of use and increased flexibility. We want to make it easier for you to send files to your clients, create new users with dedicated folders, or use them as your cloud storage. We want to make your experience easy and intuitive—and we're working hard! You also asked us to organize your files into folders easier, so we're adding a tagging feature that lets you tag files with keywords that make them easier to find later. And finally, we heard from many users who want a way to share files without having to send them through email or other apps—so we're adding file sharing directly with other users through the app itself.
