Inspiration

FindVity aims to make different people explore/learn/practice things together. Meeting people is mostly limited to dating these days. For real "exposure", people tend to pay humongous amounts of fees to colleges.

Peer learning can do wonders.

Mosly, in a group of friends, most of them are free at different times thus forcing them to cancelling plans. There might be people who remotely need each other but because of lack of resources aren't able to meet. 😮

For eg. a singer who is searching for a guitarist, the guitarist is searching for a drummer and the drummer for a singer. They might not have the required resources to meet because maybe there is no chance that they ever meet.

Also, many people have fear of rejection for asking someone to join in.

Oof. Confusion. 😕

What it does

Our app aims to make these people meet for mutual growth and helping them persuing their hobby. It would also be a kickstart to make friends when someone is there in a new location-trying to find friends who have simiar interests.

Not all hobbies/learnings have distance as a boundary. Our app has an option of searching peers for learnings that don't hsve distamce as a barrier. For eg. If I want to make a developmental project for learning to test my backend skills, I need not make the frontend because there might be a person on the other side of the globe who is finding you for his frontend.

How we built it

We used golang for the backend, Flutter for the app. Since this app involves people meeting, we figured we should have an identity verification system. So we developed a verification microservice which runs on Flask. It matches your government-issued/college-issued photo ID with a photo you click, and returns relevant data along with boolean verified=true

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a couple of challenges

  • Less development experience with Golang
  • No experience of model deployments
  • The backend got stuck at a point due to some pointer dereference and it took a while to figure it out
  • Status Bar of the app changed color automatically (weird)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We learnt how to deploy models with Flask
  • To top that, we used threading to test deployment on Google Colab (crazy, right!?)
  • We learnt golang backend development
  • Improved our ML and Flutter Skills

What we learned

  • We learnt how to work together being miles apart
  • We learnt where we lack in communication
  • We collaborated and made a product we are proud of

What's next for Findvity

  • Making this a full fledged product and help the world heal!
