What It Does

People often suggest you walk 10,000 steps a day, but that only tells you so much. We've made walking a whole new experience. Using an Android smartphone, you can now literally watch the calories melt away by walking each day.

Wolfram Alpha

To help keep track of the calories you consume, we use the Wolfram Alpha API to search for nutrition facts. This powerful tool lets you track almost any food and brand you can think of. We also take advantage of its powerful natural language queries, so you can enter how much food you eat like "5 pancakes" or "8 oz steak".

Google Fit

Android phones can take advantage of Google's powerful Fit app, which tracks steps you take automatically. By integrating with the Google Fit API, we count the number of steps you've taken today (along with your weight and gender) and send it along to Wolfram Alpha to give us how many calories you've burned.

Why Use It

The biggest reason to use this app is that it forces you to pay attention to how you're getting around. Is taking the car really necessary? Not every destination requires a car or a bus. Try walking and use this app to see how it helps you.

Obesity is an epidemic, and being overweight is linked to very serious health issues. Losing or maintaining weight doesn't have to come from hardcore workout routines or a structured diet. Just watching what you eat and how you get around can be immensely helpful.

That's what CalPal is about.

A health app for the average human being. No pressure and no time commitment. No annoying alerts telling you it's time to go for a run. Just a handy app that lets you know your calories in and your calories out. You can figure out the rest.
