Inspiration
Picture this: You're stuck in a concrete jungle, stressed out of your mind and desperately craving the peace and quiet of the forest, but you can't escape the chaos of the city. Then it hit me: what if I could carry nature's most soothing sounds around with me? But here's the catch: most meditation apps are either as boring as watching paint dry or cost more than my monthly coffee budget.
What it does
It's a usability friendly designed nature sounds app that provides everyone with a daily dose of zen without breaking the bank. It also rewards dedicated users with premium features through the clever watch an ad to get 24 hours free system.
How I built it
With bolt.new, Supabase and lingo.dev for multilingual support.
Challenges I ran into
Oh my, there were a few. I wanted to use Expo.dev, but the setup failed. I could never get it to run on mobile. Therefore, I switched to a web app. When the app was ready, I wanted to test lingo.dev. Well in the first try the language selector was implemented fast, but the text was not shown as translated. It took several attempts to get it running. When I have deployed the app some translated words were shown as message IDs.
Accomplishments that I proud of
It was an interesting experience overall, with a successful result.
What I learned
Try to not give up and act with boldness.
What's next for Fjörd: A Calm alternative
Bugfix, implement new sounds, try reworking it for mobile.
