Friender

Inspiration

We wanted to create an app to help connect people with similar interests and create a special bonding experience.

What it does

This app asks for users to select interests from a range of options, then connects the user with people who chose similar options. The user is able to view the suggested friend's Facebook profile and connect with them via Facebook messenger.

How we built it

We used Swift via XCode to build our app. We created a storyboard for each screen, adding the necessary components and connecting them to our code on the backend. We used the Facebook API to connect with users' profiles.

Challenges we ran into

None of us had experience with Swift or XCode before this hackathon, so much of our time in the beginning was spent learning the basics of the tools and languages. We attempted to use Ionic, a framework for developing mobile apps using web development languages, but ultimately decided to switch to Swift.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to successfully create a functioning mobile application without having prior knowledge coming into the hackathon.

What we learned

We learned about Swift, XCode, teamwork, and project development.

What's next for Friender

We hope to be able to build out our user database and integrate a system to allow users to connect with other users that cross paths with them.
