TRUE TO MYSELF
We will spend a third of our lives asleep. Hundreds of thousands of fleeting dreams graze our minds where we follow a path, meet strangers, and adventure to the unimaginable; yet, by the time we wake, these stories fade away, and we keep moving along. Having the opportunity to capture our dreams and build a rapport with our conscious is nothing new to technology—or even humanity—but most have only done so through words. Our behavior in our dreams is a reflection of ourselves, and the objects we see often brisk through our eyes in daily life. If we record our thoughts and let technology analyze these experiences, it does the heavy lifting of organizing and reading into our emotions on a subconscious plane. This is why I designed GOOD@FALLING, an obscure and emotionally creative collective of our dreams. Growing up, I struggled to discern some dreams from reality, as many took the shape of plausible tribulations. I constantly had recurring dreams and deja vu, and I spent my mornings reflecting on them. I used my dreams to track time for discerning real responsibilities (ie. "did my teacher assign homework, or did I realize this after my dream on Tuesday?").
DESIGN DECISIONS
GOOD@FALLING is an illustrative dream journal that decentralizes the focus on overindulging on each story. Instead, it builds a larger reflection of the user, and allows them to share their “dreamscapes” with a community. The choice of the conflicting styles across the app pays homage to my untenable habits as a child. I could not complete or pursue any single task/hobby before dropping it for another. My hobbies were left underdeveloped, and I asked myself more questions than I could answer. The themes chosen range from collages to glassmorphism, and represent visualizations of many songs I listened to during adolescence. Approaching the design of an application promoting vibrant thinking should not hinder its users as a medium. Instead, I opted to develop a unique identity for GOOD@FALLING, which is why many choices may not follow traditional styles or structure. In addition, the obfuscated theme and choice of design across the app play into a style that I personally enjoy, even though many may not. This is my understanding of "True to You," and I am proud to present GOOD@FALLING as a reflection of myself.
