Inspiration
We came into this Hackathon knowing that we wanted to create something we would use in our day-to-day life. After brainstorming for some time, we thought about emulating our daily habits as the stock market. As two analytical people, we thought this idea had potential, but knew the greater challenge would come more from creating an effective UI/UX rather than technical coding challenges.
What it does
HabitBank tracks a user's habits, helping them achieve a better overall quality of life. Users can add positive habits they want to complete daily or negative habits that they want to start avoiding. If they report doing one of these habits, they will be awarded or deducted points accordingly. The goal is for the user to accumulate as many points in their portfolio as possible and allow them to see what areas of their life they are doing poor and well in, such as wellness, fitness, education, etc.
How we built it
We built this app by using a combination of manual coding and AI tools, such as Cursor and Figma. We started with Figma to generate a acceptable MVP frontend, and then moved to using manual coding and Cursor to implement the core features and improve the UI/UX.
Challenges we ran into
This was both of our first times using Google OAuth or SupaBase. Both presented challenges due to their newness, but by using AI tools and YouTube tutorials, we were able to implement both effectively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our UI/UX. We believe we did a good job of making completing a daily habit feel satisfying and responsive to complete. Additionally, we are proud of the database and Google Sign-in feature, since neither of us have single-handedly implemented these features previously.
What we learned
We improved our abilities using Git for version. We also both improved as Frontend and UI/UX developers. Finally, we both learned to use new tools, such as SupaBase and Google OAuth, as previously mentioned.
What's next for HabitBank
We want to add a Friends feature and a leaderboard system. Implementing AI for smart feedback or habit management would also be useful.
