HandiCraft

The project

Handicraft is platform designed to foster creative expression and community among individuals all around the world, especially those with disabilities. Users can share the stories behind their crafts, connecting with others on a deeper level and celebrating diverse perspectives. Since community support plays a crucial role in nurturing personal authenticity and creativity, Handicraft offers forums, virtual workshops, and collaborative projects, allowing users to learn from and inspire each other. Our platform champions the idea that everyone has a unique story and craft worth sharing, enabling individuals to reclaim their visibility and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.

Main design decisions

Onboarding Process

• Design Decision: Simplified onboarding to create an account, select language, location, and pick a hobby.
• Contribution: This user-friendly onboarding ensures accessibility for a diverse user base, including those with disabilities. By selecting language and location early, it personalizes the user experience and ensures content relevance, making users feel more connected and supported.

Main Feed with Image Cards

• Design Decision: A visually-driven main feed with image cards featuring short descriptions of people’s hobbies.
• Contribution: The image-centric feed resembles Pinterest, making it intuitive and engaging, encouraging users to explore. The concise descriptions make browsing quick and accessible, catering to users with cognitive impairments or those who prefer a visual browsing experience.

Content Discovery and Personalization

• Design Decision: Clicking on a card opens detailed content, with suggestions for similar content.
• Contribution: This feature promotes deeper engagement by helping users discover more content that aligns with their interests. Personalized suggestions enhance the user experience, keeping users on the platform longer and fostering a sense of community.

Save Button

• Design Decision: A save button on each card for easy bookmarking.
• Contribution: Users can easily save and organize content they find inspiring or wish to revisit, enhancing user convenience and encouraging repeat visits.

Profile Section

• Design Decision: A dedicated profile section showcasing all of an artist’s posts and upcoming workshops.
• Contribution: This creates a space for artists to build their personal brand and connect with their audience. Highlighting workshops promotes skill-sharing and community building, fostering a supportive and educational environment.

Upload Tab

• Design Decision: An upload tab for users to share their work with title, description, category, and location tags.
• Contribution: This empowers artisans to easily share their creations, making the platform dynamic and content-rich. Categorization and location tagging improve searchability and discoverability, helping artists reach a wider audience and potential buyers.
