Inspiration
I had some problems at my first homecoming during freshman year, when my friend group was all over the place when we tried to meet up before the dance. Some people went to one location, others went somewhere else, and people with Androids (such as myself) couldn't access the group chat, so we had a lot of wrong information that led to us losing the rest of the group.
What it does
HocoHelper organizes all this information into a central website that anyone can access, regardless of device. It streamlines the process for both group organizers and group members, making sure everyone is on the same page about meeting up.
How I built it
I built HocoHelper using Flask for Python, Python, Bootstrap, and HTML/CSS.
Challenges I ran into
This was a pretty big project for the time limit and considering I'm working alone, along with the fact that I'm pretty unfamiliar with Flask and a slow frontend developer. I had to make sure everything fit within my time limit, which I think I did well considering the amount of polish on the final product. (Some extra features had to be omitted)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that I was able to both pick up new things about Flask, relearn some of the things I hadn't used in a while, and built a fully functional, user-friendly webapp within the short time limit of the hackathon. Additionally, this solves a problem I actually had, and will be something my friend group and I actually use for our next homecoming.
What I learned
I learned how to build dynamic webapps in Flask, user-friendly frontends, and a clean, bug-free backend.
What's next for HocoHelper
I plan to implement a photo gallery, chat system, outfit coordinator, and more after the hackathon.
