Inspiration
Our inspiration is supporting communities of women by giving them the confidence and empowerment to lead independent lives.
What it does
The project provides a digital resource to help justice-involved women find safe, secure, and affordable housing options nearby. It has a form that asks for user information which then calculates a personalized listing of houses that they are eligible for. There is a resources page that offers a marketplace for free or cheap furniture. The page also offers assistance for identification and government programs.
How we built it
HouseHaven is built with a frontend Javascript React framework. The backend will be built with a Ruby on Rails application. The UI/UX product designs is created with Figma.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was finalizing and deciding on the the direction for the project because we had so many intelligent and diverse perspectives. Another challenge was figuring out what resources exactly to provide on the site so that it is direct and straightforward but not too overwhelming for women that are struggling through the process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of our team management, communication, and collaboration. By highlighting and utilizing all of our individual strengths and coming together, we created an amazing and viable project.
What we learned
We learned the importance of a team by uniting our ideas and strengths while supporting and maintaining respect for one another.
What's next for HouseHaven
HouseHaven will implement the database schema into a Rails application. It will feature a reviews page so users can post reviews of the residence. It will have an augmented reality feature so users can virtually step into the apartment. It will offer more resources to help with the process of obtaining housing resources.
