Inspiration
Remember those water-cooler moments when you could chat with your fellow humans in close proximity? HydrantChat is a perimeter-based chat system. Our theme is hydrants. Not only do dogs piss on them, but we also use them as virtual chat room nodes! When you are within a hydrant’s proximity you will get access to its chatroom. Take pride in creating a hydrant’s chat room. Take ownership of your city. Bring the water cooler home with HydrantChats! For water to rush and words to flow!
What it does
We're using the NYC fire hydrant dataset from NYC OpenData and mapping each node to a map. Each hydrant is a host of its own virtual chat room that anyone can join.
How I built it
Our web app is built with React.js and communicates with our Backend (Node.js, Express, Sequelize, Postgres) through sockets.
