Inspiration
About 70% of active individuals have had injuries before and 37% experienced after-effects due to improper treatment. Surprisingly, 51% would rather perform internet research than go to doctors.
What it does
Injurney is a revolutionary platform designed to empower individuals recovering from injuries by providing personalized recovery plans. Users enter their injury details, severity, and medication, and Injurney uses advanced AI to suggest recovery activities, healthy meals, and medication reminders. These plans are integrated directly into Google Calendar, ensuring users can easily follow and stay on track with their recovery. The platform also allows users to maintain and work towards their lifestyle goals, such as studying, eating healthily, and exercising, ensuring that injuries don't derail their life ambitions.
How we built it
We leveraged Next.js routing features to manage our application's pages and API routes easily. Our front end used React and Tailwind CSS for a responsive and user-friendly interface. The back-end was built on Node.js with Express, interfacing with MongoDB for data persistence. We used OpenAI's GPT-4 text generation model for personalised recovery plans. Authentication was handled via NextAuth.js.
Challenges we ran into
- Implementing the OpenAI text generation feature and fine-tuning the prompts.
- Querying user responses and forum posts based on their authentication IDs.
- Integrating multiple APIs and ensuring they work seamlessly together within our Node.js backend took considerable effort and debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a user-friendly and accessible platform that can aid individuals in their recovery journey.
- Building a prototype within the limited timeframe of the hackathon, demonstrating our ability to work effectively under pressure and validating our concept.
What we learned
- The importance of user experience design in healthcare applications, ensuring information is accessible and actions are intuitive.
- Effective teamwork and project management, particularly in a remote setting, ensuring clear communication and efficient task allocation.
What's next for Injurney
- Implementing the AI functionality and fine-tuning to effectively suggest personalized treatment plans including meals and activities that can be added to their calendar.
